A Fool In Love
David Cassidy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I got a reputation
Know the right things to do
But I ain't got no education
When it comes to lovin' you
So as in you, I guess i'm just a fool
'Cause I'm a fool in love, Baby
Just a fool in love, you know babe, a fool in love
Just a fool in love

You for inspiration
Kinda get over confident
But I can't understand why
I Can't have your love, It's heaven sent
I never learned at school
Guess I'm just a fool

'Cause I'm a fool in love, baby
Just a fool in love
I'm a fool in love for you
I'm a fool in love

This heart of mine's been lyin' here
Been empty now, for just so long
And if you gave me half a chance
Never do you wrong

Babe I won't let you down
No, I won't let you down
Because I'm a fool in love, Baby
Just a fool in love

I'm a fool in love, Baby
(repeat)

Overall Meaning

In David Cassidy's song A Fool In Love, the lyrics express his vulnerability and lack of knowledge when it comes to love, despite having a reputation for knowing the right things to do. He acknowledges that he has no education when it comes to love and he feels like a fool in love. The song talks about his inspiration being the person he is in love with, but he gets overconfident and cannot understand why he can't have their love, which is heaven sent. He acknowledges that he never learned about love at school and that he is just a fool because he can't control his feelings for this person.

The song is a lament to the uncertainties and challenges that come with falling in love. It explores the struggle of balancing rationality with emotion in a relationship. Cassidy's vocals complement the lyrics beautifully, conveying the deep emotions he feels. The repetition of the line "I'm a fool in love" reinforces the theme that sometimes, despite our best efforts, love can make us feel foolish.

Great Song. Recorded when DC was a true Artist. Wish he would do more like this. Seems his concerts he does now he just walks through it with no prep ahead of time. If he had a good producer and took it serious he could still do great work.
