"Business as Usual", the third album by David Hale, is a synth-heavy nostalgic compilation of songs with various moods. The 3rd studio album from Hale draws inspiration from energizing and atmospheric 80s pop hits from artists such as Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Oingo Boingo, Genesis, and Tears for Fears - and modern artists such as Thundercat, Dayglow, Tame Impala, and Harry Styles.
On "Something Peculiar", David Hale combined atmospheric synths and melodies reminiscent of the 70s and 80s, powerful driving drums, and groovy guitar lines with contemporary vocals performed by Seth Cawthon. The end result was an alternative compilation of tracks drawing inspiration from artists like Genesis, Tame Impala, Tears for Fears, Peter Gabriel, and Supertramp.
Now 20, David Hale continues to work on his future releases while simultaneously collaborating with other musicians all over the world on separate projects.

Making up a standard
Specifically mannered
Try to break the cycle
Taking off the sutures
Focus on the future
Yet I'm blinded by the past
On things that wouldn't ever last
Far from yesterday, still old habits lead the way
Trying to break away, to be the man I always pray
I can tear down the stage
I can lift up the cage
Yet still I'm trapped in a self-made paradigm
Counting out the seconds
Counting out the minutes
Waiting for the moment
Pressures getting higher
Adding to the fire
Feeling like a liar
The more I try to hide, the more I brush aside
I'm feeling more and more like something's coming on
Confined to standards that are really far beyond
I'm racing towards that climb
Promise I'll break through this time
Far from yesterday, still old habits lead the way
Trying to break away, to be the man I always pray
I can tear down the stage
I can lift up the cage
Yet still I'm trapped in a self-made paradigm
(I'm feelin' more and more like something's coming on)
(I'm feelin' more and more like something's coming on)
(I'm feelin' more and more like something's coming on)
(I'm feelin' more and more like something's coming on)
(I'm feelin') Far from yesterday, still old habits lead the way
Trying to break away, to be the man I always pray
I can tear down the stage
I can lift up the cage
Yet still I'm trapped in a self-made paradigm
The lyrics of "Paradigm" by David Hale delve into the theme of struggling to break free from the constraints of ingrained patterns and habits. The opening lines convey the singer's realization of living within a rigid pattern, striving to adhere to a certain standard that feels constricting and restrictive. The mention of being "blinded by the past" illustrates the weight of previous experiences and choices that continue to influence the present, highlighting a sense of being stuck in a cycle that does not lead to lasting fulfillment.
As the song progresses, the frustration of trying to break free becomes more pronounced. The imagery of "taking off the sutures" signifies a desire to heal and move forward, while the reference to being "trapped in a self-made paradigm" encapsulates the feeling of being ensnared by one's own behaviors and thought patterns. The struggle to break away is palpable, as the singer acknowledges the challenge of dismantling the barriers that hold them back from embracing change and growth.
The repetition of phrases like "Far from yesterday" emphasizes the longing to distance oneself from past habits and behaviors that no longer serve a purpose. The singer's determination to "break through this time" conveys a sense of resilience and hope for a better future, despite the overwhelming pressure and internal conflict depicted throughout the lyrics. The lines about feeling like a liar and brushing aside emotions suggest a deep-seated reluctance to confront inner turmoil and vulnerabilities, further complicating the journey towards self-discovery and transformation.
Ultimately, "Paradigm" encapsulates a profound exploration of the struggle to break free from self-imposed limitations and societal expectations. The repeated refrain of being "trapped in a self-made paradigm" underscores the internal battle between yearning for change and falling back into familiar, albeit stifling, patterns. Through introspective lyrics and emotive delivery, the song encapsulates the universal struggle of striving for personal evolution while grappling with the echoes of the past and the challenges of stepping into the unknown.
