Let nothing you dismay
Remember Christ our Savior
Was born upon this day
To save us all from Satan's power
When we were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
From God our heavenly father
A blessed angel came
And unto certain shepherds
Brought tidings just the same
How that in Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by name
O tidings of comfort and joy
(Comfort and joy)
O tiding of comfort and joy
God rest ye merry gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember Christ our Savior
Was born upon this day
To save us all from Satan's power
When we were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and joy
(Comfort and joy)
O tidings of comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
(Tidings of comfort and joy)
Joy
The lyrics of David Hasselhoff's "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" are filled with the message of hope and joy that comes with the birth of Jesus Christ. The song is a reminder to all believers to not be afraid or dismayed, but to rejoice in the fact that Christ was born on this day to save us from Satan's power. The opening line of the song, "God rest ye merry gentlemen," is an old English expression that means "May God keep you joyful and peaceful, gentlemen."
The first verse tells of Christ's birth and the reason for it, which is to save humanity from sin and Satan's hold. The second verse talks about how the news of Christ's birth was brought to the shepherds by a blessed angel. The shepherds were the first to hear of Christ's birth, and they were simple, ordinary people. This is a message of hope and comfort to all, regardless of their background or station in life.
The chorus of the song is a repetition of the phrase "O tidings of comfort and joy." The word tidings means news or information, and the news of Christ's birth is one of comfort and joy. The song is a beautiful reminder of the true meaning of Christmas and the hope that it brings to all who believe.
