Speak
David Osmond Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We're both alone.
We've got our phones,
But I won't hear your voice tonight.
Feeling slow,
Even though,
Our fingers move fast as light.
Takes so long,
To carry on,
A simple conversation.
But everyone,
Who's anyone,
No longer wants to face someone.

Dosen't anyone talk anymore?
The face to face is out of place.
I think it used to mean something.
Dosen't anyone know anymore?
Through my eyes you'll see my soul.

Just speak, speak to me.
Our messages are instantly more than,
The hundred sixty letters can say.
Tell me why you and I,
Try to hide deep behind characters,
When we could speak.

So many times,
In my mind,
Thought that I was understood.
But came to find,
The thought that I,
Verbalized was no good.
It seems to me,
And I believe,
It limits me spiritually,
To comprehend,
What you intend,
When you send it digitally.

Doesn't anyone talk anymore?
Why do I give so much time,
To excercise these hands of mine?
Doesn't anyone look anymore,
Into another's eyes.
Oh speak.
Just speak.

I just realized,
I'm constantly updating,
Pages to faces that I can't see.
So why, why don't I,
Search for the answers,
From someone who knows me,
And pleads to me,
Speak.

Speak, speak to me.
Our messages are,
Instantly more than you'll ever be able to say.

And I know you're mine,
But still, I'd love some time.
Could you please just speak, speak to me.

Just speak.

Overall Meaning

David Osmond's "Speak" is a compelling song that highlights the impact of technology on communication, relationships, and interpersonal connections. The song is about two individuals who are physically apart but connected through their phones. The lyrics suggest that despite the ease of communication that technology offers, meaningful communication has become more difficult than ever.

The first stanza of the song sheds light on the paradox of modern communication. While phones provide access to instant messaging, they can also make people feel disconnected from each other. Despite the quick response times enabled by digital communication, the emotional connection created by face-to-face communication may still be missing.

Osmond raises the question of whether people still talk to each other anymore, face-to-face, and why digital communication has become more prevalent in recent years. The chorus emphasizes the importance of speaking directly with one another, as technology cannot replicate the depth of face-to-face communication.

The song concludes with the singer recognizing that although technology has its benefits, face-to-face communication leads to deeper, more meaningful connections.

Overall, "Speak" encourages listeners to prioritize direct communication over digital communication, emphasizing the importance of face-to-face interactions and meaningful conversations for true understanding and connection.

the osmonds ( Donny AND Marie ) Are Frauds since they have grown , so has Their '' EGO'' They don't want 2 talk 2 the average person unless there is a camera on them they think they are better than us .. well guess who gave them the fame ? could it be the fans going to their concerts buying their records and merchandise .. Marie makes you think that Nutrisystem helped her lose weight and that is all .. well NOT TRUE !!
Weight-loss brand: Nutrisystem.
Weight lost: 50 pounds.
Money gained: Estimated $1.65 million*
Singer Marie Osmond struggled with her body image for much of her life, which might be one of the most relatable sentences ever written.Sep 27, 2012 ... Marie thinks she OWNS diet plans !!hint
Marie Osmond may have one-upped Oprah Winfrey in the battle of the bulge.

The singer and Las Vegas performer — she stars in a show with her famous brother, ( '' Donnie '') '' '' ( THIS IS Nutrisystem's SPELLING NOT MINE )'' at the Flamingo — boasted on Tuesday that she’s lost 50 pounds using Nutrisystem — and has been able to keep them off over the 10 years she has been a company pitchwoman.

Osmond’s boast seemed aimed squarely at Winfrey and her Weight Watchers program. The TV mogul last month moved the company’s stock when she announced she had lost 40 pounds over 14 months.

The December-January months are key to weight-loss companies as folks make New Year’s resolutions to get thinner — and turn to the companies for help. Winfrey has been very visible on TV the last two weeks as Weight Watchers has amped up its latest market push. Osmond and Nutrisystem were not about to miss an opportunity to get its message out there.

“Marie has been with us for a long time,” Nutrisystem Chief Executive Dawn Zier told The Post. “She’s kept the weight off and had a lot of success.”

.
Ouch. That too seemed to be aimed at Winfrey and her yo-yo dieting. !

NOW DONNY ON THE OTHER HAND --
Donny Osmond: 'I was washed up by 21'
Soldier of Love" is a 1989 song by American singer Donny Osmond, which became his comeback hit.[2][3][4]

A Top 30 hit in the UK in 1988, the track Was Not Initially Released In The US As Osmond Did Not Have A Record Deal There. However, a cassette of the song from a British import was sent by an Osmond fan to Jessica Ettinger, the acting Program Director and Music Director at ABC's WPLJ-FM New York. Ettinger liked the song but was concerned that Osmond, a former child star, wouldn't be accepted by the current pop audience.

Ettinger, believing the song to be a hit, up-ended the top 40 music and radio industry by giving it a slot on her playlist. Osmond was not only unsigned by any record label in the U.S., but the song itself was unavailable for purchase in the U.S. at the time. To give the song a chance, she created a
'' MYSTERY ARTIST " Promotion; Put The Song In Rotation, And Kept Listeners Guessing Who The Artist Was For SEVERAL WEEKS.[5] Eventually, Ettinger had her air talent reveal that the song was by Donny Osmond, who appeared live on the air at the same time. Osmond was soon signed by Capitol Records, which copied Ettinger's promotion idea nationwide and released the song as a single. "Soldier of Love" reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1989,[6] behind Michael Damian's "Rock On"; and Osmond credits Ettinger with re-launching his career by listening to the music and not pre-judging whether a song could be a hit based on the name of the artist .. Apparently No One Guessed The '' MYSTERY ARTIST '' BECAUSE NO ONE KNEW DONNY OSMOND !!! Donny had 2 go 2 another Country 2 make a record have it sent 2 America FOOLED the public with the
'' GUESS THE MYSTERY ARTIST '' Playing the song over and over trying 2 guess the singer until her listeners knew the song ! !! Great way 2 get back into America Recordings again Donny ! CHEAT LIE FRAUD RUDE !! THERE YOU GO OSMOND FANS FROM A LONG TIME EX - OSMOND FAN !

Spent many hours listening to my older sister's Osmond Brothers albums back in the day & watching them on tv appearances was the best thing ever for preteen girls. The original boy band. Thanks for the memories, Osmond Brothers.
