He attended Western Michigan University then worked as a statistician in Cleveland where he joined a Shakespeare repertory company. Two years later he had a minor role in "The American Way" in New York. He was rejected by the army in World War II but volunteered as an ambulance driver in North Africa. He returned to critical acclaim on Broadway and was awarded a Tony for Best Supporting Actor in the musical "Finian's Rainbow" in 1947. He earned his second Tony as a leading actor in the play "The Teahouse of the August Moon". Wayne moved to Los Angeles in 1977 though his movie credits go back to Portrait of Jennie (1948) and Adam's Rib (1949) in which he sang the memorable Cole Porter tune "Farewell, Amanda". Among his many television roles were a bank official in his own comedy series, "Norby" (1955), James Merrick, a heart patient in an episode titled "Heartbeat", from the drama series "Suspicion' " (1957), the part of Inspector Queen in the Manfred Lee's "Ellery Queen" (1975) series and of "Digger" Barnes in "Dallas" (1978). In his last feature film, he played an inquisitive but slightly senile train conductor in the irreverent comedy, " Finders Keepers"(1985).

Rufus is BRILLIANT. Absolutely beautiful. Rarely does a cover do the original justice. Not only does he hold his own...one might dare say he surpassed it. There is always room for that in the artistic realm. It brought tears to my eyes...perhaps it was the sadness in his, but I cried.

And you can also say that there are very few covers that would ever have been made at all (none actually) if not for the original version (put that under "STATING the OBVIOUS" but it gets the point across --- the point being, that it's easier to add make-up to the essence of what lies beneath --- it is easy to make something prettier or more aesthetically pleasing. What is not easy, is having the imagination or talent to come up with the original idea to begin with --- that is true art and creativity.

one of my first memories that I can recall in full detail is watching this video in 2009 (I think I was 3 or 4?) on the PC in our little apartment in Brooklyn sitting on my fathers lap. I liked this song so much they’d just keep playing it because Id just light up every time I heard it. I can still remember trying to sing along and at that age the only words I could pick up were “paper cup” and “nothings gonna change my world” haha. This is still my favorite song. Good times :)

Wonderful video that deals with our tendency to distance ourselves from one another and ignore our inner child. The young girl wants to connect with the singer but he is suspended on a chair in a drab, expressionless otherworld, aloof from those around him and the presence of the girl. She spots a window on an upper floor and, hoping to get his attention, makes her way to a room containing several art pieces: one of Rufus singing and some colourful children’s sketches. From her perspective through the closed window, the chair is empty and the faceless men are gone, so the girl approaches the painting of Rufus singing. They smile at one another and like a portal to an inner consciousness the window instantly opens, revealing Rufus on the chair outside. She waves at him but gets no response, so she returns to the street, closes her eyes and makes a wish, letting the balloon slip from her fingers. The balloon drifts up and becomes many as Rufus descends from the mundane realm that held him. His eyes open as if awakened to the girl's presence and the message that she brings -- from love grows love, and the prospect of changing our world becomes possible when we are prepared to change ourselves.

Was never aware of this song till recently.
Bless John Lennon,he wrote beautiful music,he really did.
This cover of his song I think he'd have loved as it asks you to come in and feel every word...and it's just lovely.

The truth is, Beatle songs are generally simple songs. In that respect, they are easy to cover, IF you understand the song. How the hell the Fab Four PLUS George Martin were able to deliver them in such a staggering variety, without ever grand-standing, is where much of the magic lies. To most of the world's musicians, they set the bar too high.

This guy's voice has to be one of the best in the pop music world today but unfortunately his songwriting doesn't match it which could be why he isn't as internationally popular as he should be. This Lennon song is the best I've ever heard, even better than the original. He is a genius songwriter. He just doesn't write silly little pop songs everybody gets. His songs are very sophisticated and of outstanding beauty. Like his voice.
