A Place Among the Stones
Davy Spillane Lyrics

Is fada mo shile ort
Thug m isteach duit
Tusa mo mhian
Tusa mo mhian

(My eyes long for you,
I gave in,
You are my desire)

No heart hangs on distant water
What enchantment lies in this world

I wander westward my heart desires
With seas alive
Shadow me under the mountains of time
Guide me to the endless paths

No tears fall on stoney highways
That skyline splendour lights my way

We wander westward our hearts desire
With seas of light

Shadow us under the mountains of time
Guide us to endless paths

Overall Meaning

Davy Spillane's "A Place Among the Stones" is a haunting Celtic-infused instrumental piece that captures the essence of the majestic beauty of Ireland's natural landscapes. It is a mesmerizing blend of Uillean pipes, fiddles, and subtle keyboard arrangements that evoke a sense of longing, introspection, and adventure.

The lyrics, while seemingly simple, are poetic and meaningful. They speak of the singer's deep yearning for a loved one and the power of nature to inspire and transform. The lines "My eyes long for you, I gave in, You are my desire" refer to the singer's surrender to the pull of love and the beloved's irresistible charm. The following lines, "No heart hangs on distant water, What enchantment lies in this world," are a reflection on the ephemeral nature of existence and the mystery of life that surrounds us. The final lines, "We wander westward our hearts desire, With seas of light, Shadow us under the mountains of time, Guide us to endless paths," describe the singer's sense of wanderlust, his/her search for meaning and purpose, and the cathartic journey that lies ahead.

I just composed a poem to this piece. What more can I say?
BLACK COOMBE. ©
Black Coombe lies hidden by ominous cloud;
icon of the views, of which we're all proud.
Walney and its lighthouse at the end;
marks the start of mountains, too old to comprehend.

And they who moan there's nothing here to do or see;
cannot see the beauty all around them,
and it's all for free.
They can't enjoy the pleasure of our coast;
or contemplate the sky and sea, or debate which they like the most.

Just an hour or two away by motorway;
visible to see, just there, across the Bay.
Sentinel against the rolling tide;
so near to touch, and yet so wide.

And guarding o'er the trench of Lune Deep;
carved so long ago,
when the earth emerged, from frozen sleep.
Black Coombe, amongst the oldest of the nation's geology;
what makes folk say there's nothing to do,
such boredom, such strange Psychology.

Within the Circle,
Circle of stones, laid so long ago
time has crowned them with moss and memories,
there is a place outside of place
and a time outside of time.
At the center of the Circle,
Circle of stones and memories,
burns brightly a creature of Fire
summoned forth to bring comfort and power
to the Children of the Earth.
And four lesser sisters burn at the corners of the Circle
the Circle of time beyond time,
beacons to the Towers of Watching
guarding the World from darkened harm.
Bright glows the Lady Luna,
hanging above the Circle of stones,
bright shines the many stars of worlds far away,
awesome blazes the sacred flame, in many colors and shapes
as the Children feast and dance, make music and love
all in Her presence.
And the night passes on
and the days pass on
and the Earth turns with the rising and setting of the Mighty Sun
and the dance of shadows and light that are the Lady
and the stones endure
and the Children of the Earth endure
outside of time, outside of place.

Every time I play this video, each time the pipes are played, tears well up in my eyes. This has to be the worlds best piece of music/song that my ears have heard. The voice of Moya melts me and brings me back to a time when music moved me.
