Born in 1959, he began his musical career at the age of 16, but didn't begin releasing studio albums until 1988 with his debut album Atlantic Bridge. Shortly after its release he formed the Davy Spillane Band under which name he released Out of the Air, a departure from much of his solo work in that it maintained a traditional feel but was heavily influenced by blues and rock, including several guest performances from the legendary guitarist Rory Gallagher. The band featured heavily in the albums which followed Out Of The Air, including Shadow Hunter and Pipedreams. In 1993 he was signed by Sony and released several albums with a more ambient feel including A Place Among The Stones which brought him more mainstream critical acclaim.

I'm the same, although I did grow up listening to this song with my Dad.It has always made me feel like my soul has been ripped from my body and is soaring somewhere joyfully up in the clouds and my body is left in pain and heartache. For me this is the single most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard in all my 70 years! It lifts me to a place I cannot possibly reach otherwise ! Not Mozart, Beethoven or any of the many and various great composers can do that to quite the same degree as this one single piece of music.

I don't know what it is about these pipes but I go to every Irish show that comes to New Zealand and I just love them. Both my parents are Maori and though I look like a Maori, I feel more attached to this than my own culture. Saw Davy Spillane in the flesh at Riverdance and fell in love with his music ever since. Wish I could play these pipes
