(Tell the people)
'Cause you left me, baby
And I've got no place to go now

'Cause if you ask me, baby
I'll get on my knees and pray boy

The lyrics of Dawn Penn's song "You Don't Love Me" express the singer's heartbreak over a lover who has left her with nowhere to go. The phrase "Wa-wa-wa-wake the town and tell the people" suggests that the singer wants her pain to be known and heard by everyone. She is aware of the reality of the situation and admits "You don't love me" repeatedly in the song, which indicates that the relationship is over. The phrase "I'll do anything you say boy" shows the desperation and willingness of the singer to do whatever it takes to win back her lover's heart, even if it means getting on her knees and praying.
The repetition of the phrase "tell the people" in the chorus suggests the desire of the singer to share her pain with others, to let "the people" know what she is going through. The use of Jamaican Patois adds flavor and emotion to the lyrics, making it more authentic to its roots. Dawn Penn's soulful voice and the mix of reggae and ska elements in the song create a powerful combination that embodies the mood and emotion of the lyrics.
