Coma
Dawn of Dreams Lyrics

thoughts - they fly - up to sky, up to him
see the writing on the wall
watch a god pretend to fall
pull the stars all down to earth
die once more an then - rebirth
watch a god pretend to fall
pull the stars all down to earth
die again and then once more
once more - we die and greet angels keen
leave a message to the past which will read
The lyrics of Coma by Dawn of Dreams are a poignant reflection on life and death. The song begins by urging us to look at the world and our own souls, suggesting a contemplative and meditative outlook. The next line acknowledges the ephemeral nature of life, where our thoughts and desires can soar high up into the sky, lost amidst the clouds. The chorus of the song deals with the idea of mortality- the inevitability of death- and the fallibility of supposed deities. The writing on the wall may be interpreted as a warning of some impending danger or a foreboding sense of doom. The god who pretends to fall could either be indicating a sense of irrelevance of some deity or an acknowledgement that even divine entities are prone to weaknesses and failures. In the second part of the chorus, the singer imagines a dystopian future- where the stars of the heavens would fall and lie on the earth- effectively bringing about the end of the world. The lines "die once more and then- rebirth" suggest an acknowledgement that death is not an end-point but merely a point of transition- where one dies, then is born again. The final verse of the song imagines the afterlife- where one is greeted by 'angels keen'- perhaps a reference to the personifications of death in various cultures. The final line of the song urges us to leave a message to the past- implying a sense of continuity and connection- that we are all part of the same stream of humanity that stretches across space and time.
