In Too Deep
Dead or Alive Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I could offer to you a thousand things
But with a lot of them you wouldn't bother
I could buy you ten real diamond rings
But I'm sure that you would want another
I could take a plane and I could fly away
I could steal a car and I could drive away

You have brought me a lot of things
But the main one that you've brought was trouble
You put your finger to the trigger and you shot my heart
Well now I'm really gonna burst your bubble
I could take a plane and I could fly away
I could steal a car and I could drive away

But I'm in too deep there's no getting out of it
In too deep no doubt about it
In too deep there's no getting out of it
In too deep no doubt about it

Too deep
Too deep

I could call you a lot of things
I could say there'll never be another
Every time the situation feels like it is close
I've got to turn around and say, "Don't bother"
I could take a plane and I could fly away
I could steal a car and I could drive away

But I'm in too deep there's no getting out of it
In too deep no doubt about it
In too deep there's no getting out of it
In too deep no doubt about it

In too deep there's no getting out of it
In too deep no doubt about it
In too deep there's no getting out of it
In too deep no doubt about it

Too deep
Too deep

I could take a plane and I could fly away
I could steal a car and I could drive away

I could offer to you a thousand things
But with a lot of them you wouldn't bother
I could buy you ten real diamond rings
But I'm sure that you would want another

I could take a plane and I could fly away
I could steal a car and I could drive away

But I'm in too deep there's no getting out of it (too deep)
In too deep no doubt about it
In too deep there's no getting out of it (too deep)
In too deep no doubt about it

Yeah
I could take a plan and I could fly away (in too deep there's no getting out of it)
I could steal a car and I could drive away (in too deep no doubt about it)
But I'm in too deep there's no getting out of it (there's no getting out of it)
In too deep no doubt about it (no, no, no)

In too deep there's no getting out of it (there's no getting out of it)
In too deep

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dead or Alive's song "In Too Deep" are about a relationship that has gone awry. The singer acknowledges that he could offer his partner many material possessions, such as diamond rings, but that these things don't really matter to her. She has caused him a lot of trouble and heartache, and he wishes he could simply fly away or drive away from the relationship. However, he also acknowledges that he is "in too deep" to simply walk away. Despite recognizing that the relationship is causing him more pain than pleasure, he feels trapped and unable to escape.

The song's chorus, "In too deep, there's no getting out of it, no doubt about it," reflects the singer's realization that he can't simply walk away from the relationship, even though it is causing him significant pain. He wishes he could turn around and walk away, but he feels trapped and unable to do so. The repetition of the chorus reinforces the theme of being stuck in a difficult situation.

The song's overall message seems to be that sometimes even when things are going wrong in a relationship, it can be hard to walk away. The singer acknowledges that he is in too deep, much like a person might feel when they are in over their head with a difficult situation.

Such a perfect pop song!
The synth bass just rolls round so fine and fits the song like a glove.
Peter's voice compliments it all perfectly....

@E V What works when recording an album can change when releasing it as a single months down the road for the radio.

E V

I agree, and the version in the album has a better intro. The writing is perfect, the production almost perfect and what was almost perfect in the 80s is stratospheric now. It's not a matter of nostalgia, it's having people with classical education taking up new tech vs. people born with new tech.

This is my favorite song by Dead Or Alive. I never knew they did a video for it, thank you for posting it!
