Candy kisses
Dean Martin/Frank Sinatra/Sammy Davis JR/The ratpack Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Candy kisses wrapped in paper
Mean more to you
Than any of mine
Candy kisses wrapped in paper
You'd rather have them
For any old time

You don't mean it
When you whisper
Those sweet love words
In my ear
Candy kisses wrapped in paper
Mean more to you
Than mine do dear

You did that last week
You don't mean it
When you whisper
Those sweet love words
In my ear
Candy kisses wrapped in paper

Mean more to you
Than mine do dear

Overall Meaning

The song "Candy Kisses" by the Rat Pack tells a story of a love that has faded away due to the lack of appreciation and attention. The opening lyrics illustrate this point by comparing the value of the candy kisses, which are a temporary and materialistic pleasure, to the value of the singer's own kisses. The singer suggests that his lover may prefer the cheap and fleeting pleasure of candy over his deeper affection. This is reinforced in the second verse where the singer accuses the lover of insincerity when whispering sweet nothings into their ear. The lover, according to the singer, values only the superficial and is incapable of appreciating true love.

The chorus of the song expresses the singer's disbelief and disappointment that he has invested his heart and soul into the relationship, building castles out of dreams, only for them to fall apart. He expresses his sadness and the feeling of being left alone and blue. The song ends with the repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the singer's heartbreak.

Love this documentary.

The way Sammy Davis, Jr. was disgusting yet many in Hollywood stood up for him.

May Mr. Sammy Davis, Jr. rest in Peace.

I was born in 1963 and my parents brought me up on this amazing music, along with Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Judy Garland, Duke Ellington and so many more great legends. I have very little in the way of material wealth but I am rich beyond belief in terms of music upbringing.

@DeanoFrank

Dean Martin the epitome of cool, great music, loved the Dean Martin Show and Roasts. Once did a show and some folks very kindly came to me at the bar, after I had finished and asked did I have a cd they could buy, I simply said buy the Dean Martin ones, he does it better 😊
