Dean Martin Lyrics

Rudolph
Rudolph

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudy
Join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight

Then how the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee
Rudy the red-nosed reindeer
You'll go down in history

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows

All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudy
Join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won't you guide mein sleigh tonight

Then how the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee
Rudy the red-beaked reindeer
You'll go down in history

Overall Meaning

In Dean Martin's "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer," the song takes us on a journey of the underdog's rise to fame. Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer is ostracized and excluded from reindeer games by his peers because of his uniquely shiny nose. However, on one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa needs a guide for his sleigh, and Rudolph volunteers with his glowing nose. The other reindeer finally see Rudolph's worth and admire him for what makes him different. This newfound acceptance is celebrated through the resounding chorus of "Rudolph, the Red Nose Reindeer, you'll go down in history."

The lyrics of the song are a story of resilience, overcoming hardship, and ultimately accepting and celebrating our differences. Rudolph's nose is initially viewed as a deficiency, but he transforms it into a valuable asset. The tale teaches children to celebrate uniqueness and that what makes us different is what makes us special. It also reminds us to never underestimate the worth of ourselves or others and that anyone can rise to greatness.

A Dean Martin Christmas carol is about as traditional as the holiday itself. Was there ever someone more fitting. Such classics spanning generations are a treasure.

@BennyGoodman1977

Today no one sings this kind of beautiful music with real orchestras and great singers like Dean martin

Couldn’t agree more

All the best Christmas music is already written. Now we just get terrible renditions.

This song lasted as a Xmas, beloved and relaxing song for 61 years, actually I've loved every Dean Martin's song I knew...

Dean always had such fun with upbeat songs like this. I can just imagine his cheeky grin as he gave Santa a German accent. I feel this was possibly a family in-joke as Jeanie was from German ancestry, and according to Deana’s book he often used to tease her about this at home. (Deana didn’t say whether Jeannie ever ribbed Dean about his ITALIAN background!😊)

Ain’t that the truth. I grew up on Bluegrass/Americana & classic country music and yet I worship the ground Dean Martin walked on. He was the complete package. There were few cooler or more talented.
