They added the 1979 suffix to the name following a legal dispute with New York City dance-punk label Death From Above (known as DFA Records since the September 11, 2001 attacks). "Death from above" was written on a helicopter in the movie Apocalypse Now, which was copyrighted in 1979. However, Grainger says this is simply a coincidence; 1979 was chosen as it was, amongst other reasons, "the year I was born."
Death from Above 1979 had planned on recording the follow up to its debut full-length You're A Woman, I'm A Machine. There were plans to release it in three versions: the traditional bass/drums lineup, a full-band lineup with musicians assembled by Grainger, and a remix album. The albums featuring a full band and remixes were supposedly to be released on the band's official website.
In 2005 the video for "Romantic Rights" won a VideoFACT award at the MuchMusic Video Music Awards.
On August 4, 2006, the band announced they had decided to split "almost a year ago" due to the strained relationship between the two - claiming they only talked during interviews and just before shows - not to mention the fact that they had achieved all their aims after the record went gold in their native Canada.
Keeler was slated to play bass on the Queens Of The Stone Age album Era Vulgaris, but later revealed on the Death From Above 1979 message board that he could not due to scheduling conflicts. Keeler is now one half of MSTRKRFT, his new project with producer Al-P.
Sebastien Grainger is now in his own side project band Sebastien Grainger & the Mountains
In 2011 it was announced that the band were reuniting to perform at Coachella, then the band announced that they were planning to reunite on an ongoing basis.

This place is more than a lie, you should believe me.
I am not happy here. You're not grown men, you're just kids playing.
So many things that you say I don't agree with.
You're living hypocrisy. I can't compete with.
You don't look happy here. You're not grown ups you're just kids playing.
So many things we don't say, so many things we should say.
So many things we don't say, so many things we should say.
All the things we never say. They'll never let you.
So many things we don't say, so many things we should say.
You're telling more than a lie I don't believe you.
So many things we don't say, so many things we should say.
All the things we never say. They'll never let you.
So many things we don't say, so many things we should say.
You're telling more than a lie I don't believe you.
So many things we don't say, so many things we should say.
If I lose my friends, I hope I'm told, I hope that someone tells me.
If I lose my friends, I hope I'm told, I hope that someone tells me.
If I lose my friends, I hope I'm told, I hope that someone tells me.
If I lose my friends, I hope I'm told, I hope that someone tells me.
The lyrics of Death From Above 1979’s song, “Losing Friends,” is a reflection on outgrowing toxic friendships and environments. The singer highlights how their hate was born in the club, and they are leaving because the place is more than a lie. These lines imply that the singer has realized that the “club” environment and the people in it are not genuine, and they have outgrown it. They further express their unhappiness in the club and how the people they once called friends are just kids playing, not grown-ups.
The second verse goes on to point out the flaws of their friends, including the hypocrisy in the things they say, which the singer doesn't agree with. The singer feels like they can't compete with their friends' fakeness and that they are not happy in their current situation anymore. They further express how several things should be said but go unsaid, indicating that the communication is flawed in their friendship. They wish that they could express what's on their mind but realizes that some things will never be discussed because “they will never let you.”
In conclusion, the song Losing Friends is a wake-up call for anyone stuck in toxic friendships or environments. The lyrics encourage listeners to be aware of the inconsistencies around them and the importance of being surrounded by genuine people.

My boyfriend showed this EP and I thought it was too good to be true, that was 4 years ago. Now we're happily married and we will never forget this band and their new songs never disappoint. We both like "Red is White".
