Sunday Girl
Debbie Harry - Blondie Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Cold as ice cream but still as sweet
Dry your eyes Sunday girl
Hey, I saw your guy with a different girl
Looks like he's in another world
Run and hide Sunday girl
Hurry up, hurry up and wait
I got the blues, please come see
What your loving means to me
She can't catch up with the working crowd
The weekend mood and she's feeling proud
Live in dreams Sunday girl
Baby, I would like to go out tonight
If I go with you my folks'll get uptight
Stay at home Sunday girl
Hey, I saw your guy with a different girl
Looks like he's in another world
Run and hide Sunday girl
When I saw you again in the summertime
If your love was as sweet as mine
I could be Sunday's girl
Hurry up, hurry up and wait
I say awake all week and still I wait
I got the blues, please come see
What your loving means to me
I got the blues
The lyrics to Blondie's Sunday Girl is a story of a girl who is trying to move on from a broken heart. The singer describes herself as being "from a lonely street" and although "cold as ice cream," she is "still as sweet.β She is seen telling herself to stop crying and to run and hide from the pain whenever she sees her ex-boyfriend with another girl. The song portrays a sense of urgency, as the singer wants to hurry up and move on, but she's still waiting and feeling blue. The singer is conflicted, as she expresses a desire to go out with someone new, but is held back by fear of her parents' disapproval.
The lyrics touch upon themes of heartbreak, love, and self-doubt. The lyrics, "Dry your eyes Sunday girl" and "Run and hide Sunday girl" show a sense of desperation and confusion about the singer's love life. The line, "Live in dreams Sunday girl" can be interpreted as a call to escape the harshness of reality and to live in the comforting, safe space of one's dreams. Sunday also represents a day of rest and relaxation, which can be seen as symbolic of the singer's desire to take a break from her emotional turmoil.

The subtitles (in Dutch) say:
Sunday Girl comes to us only at the end of 1978, but in England it becomes a number one hit six months later.
The progression of this very American group is striking. First they only score in Australia with their debut.
On the other hand, they score in Europe with the album Plastic Letters. Only then, with an English producer, do they crack America!
Well that third album was a turnaround in their style, because they went from punk and new wave to disco.
Especially in the song Heart of Glass, which is next.

You know, I'm pretty sure the band would rather you buy their music than just get millions of views on YouTube.

Debbie was "cool" without TRYING to "act cool". It just came naturally to her. An amazing woman, even to this day. Phenomenal voice. Gorgeous looks. Amazing stage presence. Not too loud and overly flashy or gauche. Dialed-in "just right". πππ»β€οΈ

This band is legendary. Most diverse band ever, and they played different types of music stretched out from 60's rocksteady to 80's new wave. Amazing group
