Debbie Reynolds Lyrics

"Aba, daba, daba, daba, daba, daba, dab"
Said the Chimpie to the Monk
"Baba, daba, daba, daba, daba, daba, dab"
Said the Monkey to the Chimp
All night long they'd chatter away
All day long they're happy and gay
Swinging and singing in their hunky, tonkey way
"Aba, daba, daba, daba, daba, daba, dab"
Means "Monk, I love but you"
"Baba, daba, dab," in monkey talk
Means "Chimp, I love you too"
Then the big baboon, one night in June
He married them, and very soon
They went upon their aba, daba honeymoon

"Aba, daba, daba, daba, daba, daba, dab"
Said the Chimpie to the Monk
"Baba, daba, daba, daba, daba, daba, dab,"
Said the Monkey to the Chimp
All night long they'd chatter away
All day long they're happy and gay
Swinging and singing in their hunky, tonkey way
"Aba, daba, daba, daba, daba, daba, dab"
Means "Monk, I love but you"
"Baba, daba, dab," in monkey talk
Means "Chimp, I love you too"

Then the big baboon, one night in June
He married them, and very soon

Overall Meaning

"Two Weeks With Love" is a romantic movie released in 1950, starring Jane Powell and Ricardo Montalban. The film was wholesome, and the music in it was catchy and fun. One of the noteworthy songs in the movie is "Aba Daba Honeymoon," sung by Debbie Reynolds and Carleton Carpenter.

The lyrics of this song are about two primates, Chimpie and Monk, expressing their love for each other in their unique language, consisting of "aba daba" and "baba daba" phrases. They chatter away all day and night, "swinging and singing in their hunky, tonkey way." To make things even more interesting, a big baboon marries them one June night, and they go on their honeymoon, chanting the same phrases in a loop.

While the song's lyrics may seem nonsensical, it is possible to interpret them as a metaphor for the love between two people that transcends language barriers. Chimpie and Monk's love for each other is genuine, despite their gibberish conversation. In the end, they start a new life together, much like human couples who kick off their journey on a honeymoon.
