Who You Are
Ded Rabbit Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Smash of the glass as he throws down the eight ball,

Shit sounding, dirty walls, stain of last years punch up on the floor, on
The floor.

Cause I’ve waited days, to see you smile.

Hope it stays this way for a while.

And in a way, he’s in denial.

Can’t we stay this way for a while, Because

Nothing compares, to who you are.

Nothing compares, to who you are.

Who you are.

Parked on the grass, as he waits for her final call.

Overall Meaning

The song "Who You Are" by Ded Rabbit is a melancholic track that touches upon the theme of longing for someone special. The lyrics initially describe a scenario where someone throws down an eight ball and smashes a glass, while the surroundings are dilapidated with dirty walls and stains on the floor from a previous punch up. The singer then expresses his thoughts about waiting for days just to see someone smile and expresses the hope that it will last for a while. He is in denial about the situation at hand and wants things to remain the same for some time. The chorus repeats the line "Nothing compares to who you are" which reflects the importance of the person he is waiting for.

The second verse continues with the singer parked on grass, waiting for a call from the same person. The same surroundings are described again, indicating that he is in a place that is not of great importance to him. He repeats the same thoughts and again expresses the hope of maintaining the same situation for a while. The chorus repeats with the same line.

The song is a reflection of a feeling that most people can relate to, of waiting for someone special or something that you value. The lyrics are straightforward and easy to understand, while the melancholic melody aids the listener in feeling the emotions that the artist is trying to convey. Overall, it is a beautifully composed song that expresses a very relatable feeling.

All this time, I thought this scene was a fan dub

UNTIL I watched ghost stories up till then.
At which point I'd heard such outta pocket shit that this scene didn't even make me laugh as hard as it used to.

Honestly makes me lament how more studios aren't allowed that kind of liberty in their dubbing.
I mean UNIRONICALLY, best dub of the era. No forced emotion, nothing.

The main cast is actually pretty well written.

It's the seed of DBZA, and dammit all, it's fantastic.
