Ohms
Deftones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We're surrounded
By debris of the past
And it's too late
To cause a change in the tides
So we slip into
Our hopeless sea of regret
As I stare
Through
The haunted maze in your eyes
Right through
Where I'll remain for all time

And time won't change this
This promise we made
Yeah, time won't change this
It's how it'll stay

This is our time
We devour the days ahead
We've been possessed
By these changing times
As we slip on through
We promised to meet again
Somewhere

Through
The haunted maze in our minds
Right though
Where we shall remain for all time

Yeah, time won't change this
This promise we made

And time won't change this
We shall remain

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Deftones's song Ohms describe a sense of hopelessness in the face of the wreckage of past mistakes, and the acknowledgment that it may be too late to change the course of events. The singer feels trapped in a sea of regret, and is haunted by the gaze of someone they know. However, there is a sense of acceptance and resignation to the unchangeable nature of the situation. The repeated refrain, "time won't change this," emphasizes the inevitability of the circumstances and the unbreakable promise that has been made.

The second verse describes a similar sense of being possessed by the changing times, but there is a glimmer of hope in the promise that has been made to meet again. The final lines declare that despite the passing of time, the promise will remain unbroken and timeless. The overall message of the song is one of acceptance and perseverance in the face of inevitable challenges and regrets.

@comagreen8213

I saw them live in 1999 in Austria at the Two Days A Week Festival ...what a great time (I was 15 years old)

Chi was walking in the public area and talked to the people.
I can remember like it was yesterday...I said to my brother something like "look at this big dreads"

And then he said "This is Chi"

He was surrounded by a few people and I don't wanted to bother him, but these days I wish that I have talked to him a few words.

I am more that old school guy (first 3 CDs where the best)

I am getting old

Deftones never disappoint. You know you've done your job as a father, when your 24 year old daughters favorite band is Deftones. My old posters in my room, now hang on her walls.
