Haddon began his recording career in the mid 90s with the Voices of Unity on the small Tyscot label. As the group leader for their three albums, Haddon expressed his forward looking musical view, merging elements of soul, hip-hop and funk in the group's Gospel music. VOU had some mild success on the Gospel charts, but by the late 90s Haddon was ready to move more clearly front and center as a solo artist. His first two solo albums, This is My Story and Chainbreaker continued his artistic development and made some moderate noise on the Gospel charts.
However, I’m not sure that even the devoted fan base he had been accumulating could have anticipated his late 2002 release, Lost and Found, his first on giant Gospel label Verity. A project as ambitious as Tonex’s noted debut, Pronounced Toe-Nay, Lost and Found is an exhaustive, inspired opus by a Gospel artist who, with its release, clearly declared himself a new Gospel star.
The disc begins sounding like a dance Gospel album, leading off with two funky numbers, “D.D.” and “Oh Yeah” (the latter featuring the ubiquitous Fred Hammond). From there it covers broad territory, including bluesy, southern soul (“Ain’t Got Nothing” and the radio hit, “Sinner’s Prayer”), Praise & Worship (“Worship Medley”), Prince-style electric soul (“It’s Me”), big ballads (“Stand Still”) and joyous calypso (“The Praises Go (Up, Up, Up)”). Haddon is literally bursting with musical ideas on the album and, amazingly, virtually all work. Equally impressive is the strong lyrical content of the disc – much of it autobiographical -- focusing principally on the power of redemption and the ability of faith to rescue lost or miscast souls.
It took me almost two months to review Lost and Found, mostly because it took so long to fully absorb such an ambitious project. Now I can clearly say that this stands, with Mary Mary’s “Thankful” and Tonex’s “O2,” as perhaps the definitive modern Gospel album of this decade, and is a must for both Soul and Gospel lovers.

Because He Lives
Deitrick Haddon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, all fear is gone.
Because I know, I know, I know He holds the future.
And life is worth the living just because He lives.
How sweet to hold a new born baby, and feel the pride and joy he gives. But greater still is that assurance the child can face uncertain days because He lives.
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, all fear is gone.
Because I know, I know, I know He hold the future.
And life is worth the living just because He lives.
And then one day, I'll cross that river. I'll fight life's final war with pain. And then as death gives way to victory. I'll see the light of glory and I'll know that He lives.
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, all fear is gone.
Because I know, I know, I know He hold the future.
And life is worth the living just because He lives.
The lyrics of Deitrick Haddon's song "Because He Lives" convey a strong message of faith and hope in God's unending love and mercy. The song begins with a reminder of Christ's sacrifice - that he was sent by God, lived and died to redeem humankind. The lines "He came to love, heal, and forgive" highlight Jesus' role as a divine savior who came to offer all of us salvation through his resurrection.
In the chorus, the lyrics proclaim the reassurance and confidence that believers have in Christ's love and the eternal life he promises. The line "all fear is gone" speaks to the transformative power of God's love, and how it can banish all doubts and anxieties from our thoughts. The line "I know He holds the future" reminds listeners that even in times of darkness and uncertainty, they can trust that God is in control of everything.
The second verse speaks to the joy and fulfillment that many people experience when holding a newborn baby. However, the greater joy that comes from believing in Christ is knowing that this child can navigate their future with faith and courage, no matter what challenges come their way.
Finally, the third verse references the inevitability of death and how it can be a source of fear for many. However, the lyric emphasizes the hope of a life beyond this one and the joys of seeing the "light of glory" in heaven.
Overall, the lyrics of "Because He Lives" are a testament to the strength and comfort that many people find in their faith, and the transformative power of God's love and grace.
