Haddon began his recording career in the mid 90s with the Voices of Unity on the small Tyscot label. As the group leader for their three albums, Haddon expressed his forward looking musical view, merging elements of soul, hip-hop and funk in the group's Gospel music. VOU had some mild success on the Gospel charts, but by the late 90s Haddon was ready to move more clearly front and center as a solo artist. His first two solo albums, This is My Story and Chainbreaker continued his artistic development and made some moderate noise on the Gospel charts.
However, I’m not sure that even the devoted fan base he had been accumulating could have anticipated his late 2002 release, Lost and Found, his first on giant Gospel label Verity. A project as ambitious as Tonex’s noted debut, Pronounced Toe-Nay, Lost and Found is an exhaustive, inspired opus by a Gospel artist who, with its release, clearly declared himself a new Gospel star.
The disc begins sounding like a dance Gospel album, leading off with two funky numbers, “D.D.” and “Oh Yeah” (the latter featuring the ubiquitous Fred Hammond). From there it covers broad territory, including bluesy, southern soul (“Ain’t Got Nothing” and the radio hit, “Sinner’s Prayer”), Praise & Worship (“Worship Medley”), Prince-style electric soul (“It’s Me”), big ballads (“Stand Still”) and joyous calypso (“The Praises Go (Up, Up, Up)”). Haddon is literally bursting with musical ideas on the album and, amazingly, virtually all work. Equally impressive is the strong lyrical content of the disc – much of it autobiographical -- focusing principally on the power of redemption and the ability of faith to rescue lost or miscast souls.
It took me almost two months to review Lost and Found, mostly because it took so long to fully absorb such an ambitious project. Now I can clearly say that this stands, with Mary Mary’s “Thankful” and Tonex’s “O2,” as perhaps the definitive modern Gospel album of this decade, and is a must for both Soul and Gospel lovers.

When He Must, Take A Stance
And Confess, To Where He's Been
And Ask God, To Forgive His Sins
To Forgive His Sins
Whoa, Whoa...
And I'm Standing In The Need
It's Me Lord
Standing In The Need
Oh Its Me, Oh It's Me
And I'm Standing In The Need
Standing In The Need Of Forgiveness
I Can Hear My Spirit Mend, Telling Me To Make A Stand
Turn Away, Turn Away From My Evil Ways
So God Can Bring Me Brighter Days
Bring Me Brighter Days
Whoa...
It's Me Lord
Standing In The Need
Oh Its Me Lord Yeah
Standing In The Need
Oh Its Me, Its Me, Wow Wow
And I'm Standing In The Need
Standing In The Need Of Forgiveness
You Know The Preacher,
The Preacher Told Me I Would Burn In Hell If I Don't Confess
(Told Me I Would Burn In Hell If I Don't Confess)
That's What He Told Me (Confess)
That's What He Told Me
Oo, My Heart Is Open And My Arms Start...
Asking You To Come Inside, Yeah
It's Me (It's Me), It's Me (It's Me)
And I'm Standing (It's Me), In The Need (Standing In The Need)
Not My Mother (It's Me), Not My Father (It's Me)
But Its Me (It's Me), Hey Lord (Standing In The Need)
Oowwoo (It's Me), Ooowwwooo (It's Me)
And Its Me (It's Me), Standing In The Need(Standing In The Need)
I Repent Lord (It's Me), For My Sins (It's Me)
Won't You Please (It's Me), Take Me In (Standing In The Need)
Lord (It's Me), Its Me (Its Me),
I Am Standing (It's Me), In The Need (Standing In The Need)

Standing In The Need Of Forgiveness
The lyrics of Deitrick Haddon's song "It's Me" talk about the struggle of a man who has come to a point in his life where he needs to confess his wrongdoing and seek forgiveness from God. The opening lines talk about the importance of taking a stand and confessing one's sins. The repeated chorus emphasizes the singer's plea for forgiveness and how he is the one standing in need of it. The second verse talks about the inner voice that urges the singer to turn away from his evil ways and seek brighter days. The bridge features the singer recalling what the preacher had told him about the consequences of not confessing and expresses his willingness to let God come into his heart and take him in.
Overall, the song's lyrics convey a sense of remorse, urgency, and vulnerability. The singer acknowledges his wrongdoing and accepts responsibility for it. He recognizes the need for forgiveness and is willing to do what it takes to attain it, even though he knows it may not be an easy journey. The song's message is one of hope and redemption, and it encourages the listener to examine their own lives and make the necessary changes to seek forgiveness and start anew.
