Haddon began his recording career in the mid 90s with the Voices of Unity on the small Tyscot label. As the group leader for their three albums, Haddon expressed his forward looking musical view, merging elements of soul, hip-hop and funk in the group's Gospel music. VOU had some mild success on the Gospel charts, but by the late 90s Haddon was ready to move more clearly front and center as a solo artist. His first two solo albums, This is My Story and Chainbreaker continued his artistic development and made some moderate noise on the Gospel charts.
However, I’m not sure that even the devoted fan base he had been accumulating could have anticipated his late 2002 release, Lost and Found, his first on giant Gospel label Verity. A project as ambitious as Tonex’s noted debut, Pronounced Toe-Nay, Lost and Found is an exhaustive, inspired opus by a Gospel artist who, with its release, clearly declared himself a new Gospel star.
The disc begins sounding like a dance Gospel album, leading off with two funky numbers, “D.D.” and “Oh Yeah” (the latter featuring the ubiquitous Fred Hammond). From there it covers broad territory, including bluesy, southern soul (“Ain’t Got Nothing” and the radio hit, “Sinner’s Prayer”), Praise & Worship (“Worship Medley”), Prince-style electric soul (“It’s Me”), big ballads (“Stand Still”) and joyous calypso (“The Praises Go (Up, Up, Up)”). Haddon is literally bursting with musical ideas on the album and, amazingly, virtually all work. Equally impressive is the strong lyrical content of the disc – much of it autobiographical -- focusing principally on the power of redemption and the ability of faith to rescue lost or miscast souls.
It took me almost two months to review Lost and Found, mostly because it took so long to fully absorb such an ambitious project. Now I can clearly say that this stands, with Mary Mary’s “Thankful” and Tonex’s “O2,” as perhaps the definitive modern Gospel album of this decade, and is a must for both Soul and Gospel lovers.

Generation oh lord
And his race is sufficient to all
All his people
Oh my lord
I don't know what I do without him
I don't want to think about it
If you took your mercy away
Out for mercy
Out for mercy
I cry
Out for grace
Out for grace
Oh lord
Oh lord
Oh lord
I cry
Lord have mercy
Even when I am not in his will
Yet you still your love keeps moving on
Even If I have done something wrong
I'm glad your love keeps going strong
And I don't know what I would do about it
I don't want to think about it
If you took your mercy away
I cry
I cry Lord
Out for mercy
I cry
Out for the race
Oh lord oh lord oh lord
I cry lord have mercy
Oh I cry out for mercy
I cry out for the race
Oh lord oh lord
I cry oh lord have mercy
Lord have mercy
Have mercy
Lord have mercy
Have mercy
Lord have mercy
Have mercy
Lord have mercy
Have mercy
Lord have mercy
Have mercy
For your people lord have mercy
Na na na na na na na na na na na
The lyrics to Deitrick Haddon's song "Mercy" express a deep appreciation for God's mercy and endurance. The first part of the song acknowledges that God's mercy is sufficient for all generations and for all his people. The singer then says that they don't know what they would do without God's mercy and doesn't want to even think about it. The chorus repeats the cry for mercy and for grace, acknowledging that without God's love and mercy, they would be lost.
The second part of the song acknowledges that even when the singer is not in God's will or has done something wrong, God's love still keeps moving on. The singer expresses gratitude for this love and acknowledges that it keeps going strong even when they are not perfect. The chorus repeats again, emphasizing the cry for mercy and grace. The song ends with a repetition of the phrase "Lord have mercy" and "have mercy" several times, emphasizing the importance of God's mercy for his people.
Overall, the song conveys a deep sense of gratitude and reliance on God's mercy and love. It acknowledges that without God's mercy, the singer would be lost and emphasizes the importance of mercy for all generations and for all of God's people.
