So conveniently out of sight and out of mind
People are too willing to ignore the problems around them, as they hide in their secluded offices and live in their own worlds, filled with daydreams and delusions. Even the laws, science and religion can't help them escape the harsh reality - everyone is silent about what's really going on beneath the surface.

Private offices, the handshakes, leisure time
People's lives and work are so secluded and isolated, they are unable to see the reality outside of their own bubble. Their leisure time is spent in the same way - disconnected rather than being truly engaged with the world.

Daydreams, delusions, religion, law and science
No matter how hard we try, we cannot escape the harsh reality of the world we live in. Even our most relied-upon structures and institutions of religion, law, and science sometimes fail to properly help and protect us.

The underworld, their pact of silence
There are certain groups or organizations, like the underworld, that keep their silence about their activities, despite the wrongfulness of them. The idea of a “pact of silence” is how these groups keep themselves looking discrete and continue with their illicit activities under the radar.

Nothing can keep me safe from the evil out there
There is no way to escape the harshness of the world, and everything that comes with it: the dangers, the bad, and the evil.

The one thing I'm sure of will reach me just like them
Regardless of the precautions one take, anything harmful or dangerous has an equal chance of affecting anyone and everyone, without exception.

The silence tempts me to start lying to myself
The silence, which is intended to protect oneself, is tempting to use as an excuse to self-deny, to turn a blind eye towards the happenings of the world, or even to lie to oneself to avoid the truth and the associated pain.

Nothing hurts as much as to hear you just don't care
It is a letting down feeling when the people one hopes to turn to in case of trouble, neglect to step up to the plate, or worse still, “don’t care” about someone. The meaning here is, this can have a far worse impact than any physical harm.

You say the world's always been run by this same pattern
The person being addressed is acknowledging the fact that the world is set up in such a way that the inequalities and problems that have always been there, will always remain the same, regardless of the efforts made.

Individual rights would never really matter
The person's rights as an individual, who is meant to be cherished because of their uniqueness, are ignored and not given the attention it deserves in the broader scheme of things.

Majority rule makes you give in and stay silent
When the greater number of individuals decide upon something, it makes it difficult for the minority to disagree; the dissenting/disadvantaged group is made to give up their voices and beliefs.

You say when I stand up I just declare that I'm powerless
When the person is making an attempt to stand up for themselves or the cause, they are told that their actions don’t have an ample effect, and thus are basically powerless, almost as if being silenced.

It makes me scream to hear I can't make it change
Hearing that one person cannot make enough of a difference to fight against the injustice and inequality of the world is extremely infuriating, and can prompt a strong and vehement reaction.

It's people like you who make things stay the same
The person being addressed is blamed for the things that are happening around them. Their actions, or lack thereof, have helped to keep the injustices and inequalities of the world perpetuating.

So don't you ever say that I can't make a change
The person is brushing off the discouraging comments made earlier, and is stating that they will prove otherwise to those who claim that one individual cannot make a significant impact.

It's people like you!!
The person being addressed is not only blamed but also labeled as a part of the problem. Their actions contribute to the massive issue of the world being in a state of disarray.
