Find Me In The River
Delirious Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Find me in the river
Find me on my knees
I've walked against the water
Now I'm waiting if you please

We've longed to see the roses
But never felt the thorns
And bought our pretty crowns
But never paid the price

Find me in the river
Find me there
Find me on my knees with my soul laid bare
Even though you're gone and I'm cracked and dry
Find me in the river, I'm waiting here

Find me in the river
Find me on my knees
I've walked against the water
Now I'm waiting if you please

We didn't count on suffering
We didn't count on pain

But if the blessing's in the valley
Then in the river I will wait

Overall Meaning

The Delirious song "Find Me In The River" is a poignant and emotional plea for guidance and comfort in the midst of hardship and uncertainty. The lyrics speak of a person who has struggled and fought against the "water" of life, but has now reached a point of surrender and is seeking solace in a higher power, represented by the river. The repetition of the lines "Find me in the river, Find me on my knees" emphasizes the singer's desperation to be found and helped.

The second verse speaks to the common human experience of wanting only the good things in life, represented here by the desire to "see the roses" and wear "pretty crowns". The implication is that this desire for a perfect life has led to a lack of preparation for the difficult times. The singer acknowledges this, but also recognizes that they cannot overcome their current struggles alone. It is a humble plea for help and guidance in a time of need.

The chorus is a repeated call to be found in the river, on one's knees with a soul laid bare, despite being alone and in a state of desperation. The river is symbolic of a higher power, perhaps God, and the waiting represents a willingness to submit to whatever the future may hold. The final lines acknowledge that suffering and pain were unexpected, but if there is a blessing to be found in the valley, the singer will wait in the river.

Overall, the lyrics of "Find Me In The River" are a moving expression of faith and surrender in the face of adversity. It speaks to our shared human experience of pain and suffering, and the longing for a higher power to guide and comfort us.

Me and my late grandma who raised me from a baby used to listen to this song. She would listen to it about 3 times every time we got in the car and it would drive me nuts cause it was played so much but After she passed I couldn’t find the cd and I didn’t know the name or artist. I’ve been looking for this song for 6 years now… I found it. I found the song.. and I can’t help but cry and really listen to the lyrics now that I’m an older adult and wow. Powerful. Thank you for creating this.

I'm happy you finally found it. I was lucky enough to see this band live in Detroit in 2007. They pop the in my head every now and then to this day. I hope your Grandma is in Heaven with her Loved One's, especially the one she thought about when she listened to this song. I also hope you reunite with her there sometime.
