Kingdom Of Comfort
Delirious Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
From the kingdom of comfort where I am king
From my unhealthy lust of material things
I built myself a happy home
In my palace on my own
My castle falling in the sand
Pull me out, grab my hand
Save me, save me
From the kingdom of comfort where I am king
From my unhealthy lust of material things
I rob myself of innocence
With the poison of indifference
I buy my stuff at any cost
A couple of clicks and I pay the price
'Cause what I gain is someone else's loss
Save me, save me
From the kingdom of comfort where I am king
From my unhealthy lust of material things
Save me, save me
From the kingdom of comfort where I am king
To this kingdom of heaven where You are king
The lyrics of Delirious's song Kingdom Of Comfort suggest a strong critique of consumer culture and materialism. The song seems to be addressed to a divine being, as the singer begs to be saved from the "kingdom of comfort" where they reign as king, but are ultimately unhappy and unfulfilled. The lyrics suggest that the singer has become addicted to material things, creating a "palace" for themselves but ultimately feeling lost and disconnected from their true identity. The first verse suggests a sense of desperation, as the singer's castle begins to crumble, leading them to realize they have forgotten where they came from.
The second verse suggests that the singer's addiction to materialism has had a negative impact on their character, robbing them of their "innocence" and turning them into someone who is indifferent to the cost of their actions. The lyrics suggest that the singer's actions have a ripple effect – when they buy things at any cost, they are ultimately taking away from someone else. In this sense, the song is not just a critique of materialism as an individual problem, but a systemic one, where consumer culture is built on the exploitation of others. The chorus serves as a plea to be saved from this destructive way of life and brought to a "kingdom of heaven" where God is king.

I ask myself: how much do I spend on myself? How much do I spend on others? I spend too much on myself and not enough on ministries, orphans widows and the poor or homeless, etc. Lord forgive and save me from myself. Others have needs and I must sell it all and give it to the poor and come and follow Jesus and Carry His Cross.
