Shadow
Demi Lovato Lyrics

It followed me along the way
A figure of gray
Impersonating every move I make
For now we'll call it my shadow
And it said will you replace it
So you'll be with me everywhere I go
Running throughout my head
Searching for a chance
To catch my breath
A never ending dream
You'll become a part of me
Day or night
Dark or light you'll be
Taking over that thing called my shadow
And what happens on the days when
The clouds appear & fade away my shade,oh
That's are cue babe
We'll run away to a place where the sun always shines
That not even time could erase
You're my weakness babe but you give me strength
I need you,I need you like the blood in my veins
Sentences of yours
Running throughout my head
Searching for a chance
To catch my breath
A never ending dream
You'll become a part of me
Day or night
Dark or light you'll be
Taking over that thing called my shadow
The lyrics to Demi Lovato's song Shadow featuring Tony Oller talks about the concept of a shadow being a representation of oneself. She sees a figure of gray, that imitates every move she makes, that follows her along the way. She refers to it as her shadow and questions if it could be replaced so it can be with her everywhere she goes. The chorus mentions how the sentences of a person she likes are running throughout her head, searching for a chance to catch her breath. She believes that this person will become a part of her and take over the thing called her shadow.
The bridge of the song imagines what would happen on days when the clouds appear and fade away her shadow. As a result, they would run away together to a place where the sun always shines that not even time could erase. She admits that this person is her weakness, but they give her strength. She needs them like the blood in her veins.
The song is a representation of how someone can impact another person's life and become an integral part of their existence. It highlights the idea that sometimes another person can become so important that they replace the identity of certain aspects of oneself.
