I Swore
Denai Moore Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I can't stop my heart and mind
But only each other
I swear I've lost myself a thousand times
A thousand times
Swore in my mind that
For the first time
Say words without no meaning
Throw to each other
I swear I've lost myself a thousand times
A thousand times
Swore in my mind that
Swore at my father
For the first time, for the first time
For the first time, for the first time
Cutting up before it lingers
Must have banged beneath my fingers
And I always suffer
I swear I've lost myself a thousand times
A thousand times
Swore at my mother
For the first time, for the first time
For the first time, for the first time
Swore at my father
Swore at my father
Swore at my mother
And I've been on for far too long
Long, long, long, long, long
Swore at my father
Swore at my father
Swore at my mother
And I've been on for far too long
Long, long, long, long, long
Swore at my father
Swore at my father
Swore at my mother
And I've been on for far too long
Long, long, long, long, long
Swore at my father
Swore at my father
Swore at my mother
And I've been on for far too long
Long, long, long, long, long
Denai Moore's song "I Swore" is a somber ballad that explores the feelings of confusion and frustration that come with a faltering relationship. The lyrics are an introspective exploration of the singer's tumultuous emotions, as they try to reconcile their conflicting feelings toward their partner and parents. The opening lyrics set the tone for the song as the singer is grappling with their inability to control their heart and mind, leaving them feeling lost and vulnerable. They go on to say that they've sworn to themselves that they will try to work things out with the person they're in a relationship with for the first time.
The next verse sees the singer questioning what they even believe in anymore, as they feel like the words they and their partner are saying to each other have lost all meaning. The bridge of the song is a reflection of all the times the singer has felt like they've lost themselves in this relationship, and that they've sworn at both their mother and father for the first time. It's clear that the singer has been struggling with their emotions for far too long, and the repeated phrase "And I've been on for far too long" at the end of the song is a testament to this sense of weariness.
Overall, "I Swore" is a haunting song that accurately captures the complex emotions that come with a deteriorating relationship. The repetition of certain phrases and words throughout the song creates a sense of cyclical despair, like the singer is stuck in an endless loop of confusion and frustration.
