Heaven
Depeche Mode Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sometimes I slide away
Silently
I slowly lose myself
Over and over
Take comfort in my skin
Surrender to my will
Forever and ever
I dissolve in trust
I will sing with joy (woo)
I will end up dust
I'm in heaven
Yeah
I stand in golden rays
Radiantly
I burn a fire of love
Over and over
Reflecting endless light
Relentlessly
I have embraced the flame
Forever and ever
I will scream The Word
Jump into the void
I will guide the world
Up to heaven
Yeah
I still love you
I still love you
Thank you
The song 'Heaven' by Depeche Mode is a poignant and introspective reflection on self-discovery through introspection and surrender. In the first verse, the singer describes losing oneself slowly and silently, while finding comfort in their own skin and surrendering to their will. They sing about dissolving in trust and singing with joy, only to end up as dust in the end. This can be interpreted as a meditation on the fleeting nature of life - we are all temporary and must make the most of our time on earth. The chorus then declares the singer's arrival in heaven, suggesting that the journey towards self-discovery has been successful.
The second verse then goes on to describe the singer standing in golden rays, burning a fire of love, and embracing the flame endlessly. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for embracing one's true self, shining bright and radiating endless light. The singer then declares their willingness to scream the word, jump into the void, and guide the world up to heaven. This can be interpreted as the artist's message to embrace fear and uncertainty, to boldly forge ahead towards self-discovery, and help guide others along the way.
Overall, 'Heaven' is a powerful and optimistic song that encourages self-discovery and fearless introspection. It encourages listeners to embrace their true selves, to shine bright, and to help guide others towards enlightenment and acceptance.

My father was a huge Depeche Mode fan. He played their songs all the time as a child. Wherever we are. And when I was 5, he took me with him to their concert. He died in 2015 when I was 7. According to my mom "Delta Machine" was his favorite album. He was very fond of the blues. Thank you so much, dad, for turning on the work of this group for me since childhood. I hope you got to heaven.

That's a bittersweet memory, one you should hold on to and share frequently. When you do the ones we love are still alive and can touch others.
