His approach to music is not different on purpose, it’s different with purpose. Twenty-eight years old and from Orangevale, California, Dawson grew up just outside the gates of Folsom Prison. He heard the sirens at night, and sang along to Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson, Marvin Gaye and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Arriving in Nashville in 2012, he put his unique skills to use authoring songs for other artists. When it came time to put together his own debut album, he teamed with equally daring producer Jay Joyce (Eric Church, Little Big Town, Brothers Osborne). Having co-written every track, the result is a mix of organic roots and high-voltage country, full of romance and delivered with a distinctive saw-toothed vocal. As he gets ready to join Maren Morris’ Hero Tour this year, Dawson is already establishing a reputation in Nashville as one of the most exciting modern singer-songwriters the format has ever seen.
Honest To God

Before the warning signs and the orange lights start turning on you
I don't need nobody's help
I can do it by myself
Only gets you so far
Before it starts weighing down on your heart
So here goes nothing, no
Honest to God
I ain't been so honest to God
I'm falling apart
And I can't keep putting this off
I've been trying to deny You
But honestly if I was
Being honest to God
Honest to God
It don't makes sense
For me to keep dragging this on
'Cause truth be told
You probably gave me this song
With a whisper in my ears
But I ain't listening, I don't hear it
I just keep playing louder and louder
Yeah, even though that I know the power
When You speak right from the heart
Honest to God
I ain't been so honest to God
I'm falling apart
And I can't keep putting this off
I've been trying to deny You
But honestly if I was
Being honest to God
Honest to God
I'd say I'm not really sure
If this is it here down on Earth
Or if there's something more
Honest to God
Honest to God
The lyrics of "Honest To God" by Devin Dawson speaks about a person who has been keeping things to themselves, trying to deal with everything on their own without seeking help from anyone, even from God. The song tells the story of someone who has been running on fumes, ignoring the warning signs around them, and trying to carry the weight of their struggles alone. The lyrics proclaim that even though it may seem like self-reliance can take you far, it eventually takes a toll on your heart, and you need to reach out for help.
The chorus of the song showcases the moment where the person finally admits their struggles to God. They acknowledge that they have been denying God's presence even though they were aware that God was speaking to them, but they chose not to listen. The realization hits them that they have been falling apart and cannot keep avoiding the issue. They need to be honest with themselves and with God about their struggles and seek guidance.
Overall, "Honest To God" is a song that speaks to the idea of vulnerability and seeking help when you need it. It tells the story of the struggle of admitting your struggles and seeking relief through God.

Make me think of our amazing son Andrew. I’m honest with God about the heartbreak that I feel daily, the grief that
never goes away, but with God and His blessed hope…. I can go on. Father help us all who grieve our children as only you can. ❤️✝️🙏🏻
