Your Love
Diana Ross Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You gotta have love in your heart
You gotta have a song on your lips
You gotta let freedom roll
Then you'll feel good
Yes you will

I look out my window
And what do I see
I see a world that's full of confusion
And I know just what it needs

It needs to have a little love in its heart
It's gotta have a song you can sing
It's gotta let freedom roll
Then you'll feel good
Yes you will

I look in my mirror
And what do I see, yeah
I see a man
Who's lost and is wandering
And I know just what he needs

He needs to have a little love in his heart
He's gotta have a song on his lips
He's gotta let freedom roll
Then he'll feel good
Yes he will

Don't you wanna feel good
Yes I do
Ooh, you should feel good
Yes I do
You've gotta feel good, oh yeah
Yes I do

You gotta have a little love in your heart
You gotta have a song on your lips
You gotta let freedom roll
Then you'll feel good
Yes you will
You gotta have a little love in your heart
You gotta have a song on your lips
You gotta let freedom roll
Then you'll feel good
Yes you will

You gotta have a little love in your heart(Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love)
You gotta have a song on your lips (Yeah people)
You gotta let freedom roll (And I'm talking to you)
Then you'll feel good (And you-ooh-ooh-ooh-, yeah)
Yes you will
You gotta have a little love in your heart(Ohh)
You gotta have a song on your lips(Say it, say it again)
(Oh yeah)You gotta let freedom roll(You sound so good)

Then you'll feel good
Yes you will

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Diana Ross's song Your Love are about the power of love and positivity to improve the world around us. The song begins with the assertion that we must have love in our hearts, and a song on our lips in order to feel good. The idea of letting freedom roll also suggests that we should not be held back by fear or negativity, and instead embrace the things that make us happy and free.

The verses then describe the state of the world and the singer's own personal struggles. They see a world full of confusion and people who are lost and wandering, and they feel that they know what is needed to make things better. The answer is, of course, love and freedom.

In the chorus, the lyrics repeat the idea that we must have love in our hearts, a song on our lips, and freedom in order to feel good. The repetition of these lines is meant to reinforce the idea that these are the keys to happiness and that they are so simple and universal that anyone can achieve them. The song ends with an encouraging call for listeners to say the lines again and feel good.

Sometimes when I'm sitting all alone
I think of things that I have done
And start to wonder if there's one thing
That means more than others I have known
And suddenly it's clear to me
Without your love where would I be

Your love has kept me going
Through good and bad times
It's kept me growing
Like a steady flame
Your love has kept on burning
Through sweet and sad times
I'll keep returning to the magic of your love

Through the years my dreams may come and go
For fortune is a fleeting time
And no one knows what time may bring
But through the highs and lows of it I'll know
That there's one thing of which I'm sure
The one thing I've been living for

Your love has kept me going
Through good and bad times
It's kept me growing
Like a steady flame
Your love has kept on burning
Through sweet and sad times
I'll keep returning to the magic of your love

Your love has kept me going
Through good and bad times
It's kept me growing
Like a steady flame
Your love has kept on burning
Through sweet and sad times
I'll keep returning to the magic of your love

I'll keep returning to the magic of your love
Your love

There's something magical about Diana Ross' songs. Her voice is so soft, silky, pure and classic. The first time I heard this song was a cassette of hers I bought and I remember tears dropping from my eyes when this song played. Beautiful song by all standards.

What a fabulous song and performance!! The music industry in America sucks today this should of been a #1 it seems in America the less talent you have the bigger you become When legends like Diana Ross are basically ignored while still delivering quality music. I saw her perform this live in 2003 and the audience was in total awe!!!
