You Keep Me Hanging On was a number one smash in two decades. The Supremes original topped the R&B charts for four weeks starting on Thanksgiving weekend November 26-December 17,1966 ending Eddie Floyd’s one week run with the original version of Knock On Wood. Then afterwards when the Supremes ended their four week run,their Motown label mates the Temptations replaced them at the top with their original version of (I Know)I’m Losing You. On the pop charts,You Keep Me Hanging On spent two weeks at the top on November 19-26,1966 ending Johnny Rivers’ one week run with Poor Side Of Town. Then afterwards when the Supremes ended their two week run,the were replaced by the New Vaudeville Band with Winchester Cathedral. Then almost twenty-one years later in 1987,Kim Wilde did
a dance/pop version of You Keep Me Hanging On and it hit number one for one week on June 6,1987 ending U2’s three week run with With Or Without You. Then the following week Kim Wilde was dethroned by Atlantic Starr with their smash hit ballad and biggest hit Always.

Sorry my mistake, that was quick when a couple of weeks ago she was speaking of a 60 reunion of signing with Motown, but it was up to Diana. They say she passed suddenly at her Las Vegas home last night. Now it is just Diana.

From the early 20th century to 1970 it was one of the great industrial towns in the world with the Edison Company, General Electric, several train car and train engine manufacturers, steel mills, machinist shops, tool and dye makers, dense German, Irish, Italian, Black, and Appalachian neighborhoods, a socialist mayor, a radical industrial union, liberal Republicans, right-wing Democrats… vaudeville shows, bordellos, night clubs, gambling dens, mob bosses, etc. There were suburbs in Schenectady County, but Schenectady was only a midsize city but still an industrial powerhouse. You know it as a hollowed out rust-town that is a bit sleepy.

+danehb89 back in an era when musicians were musicians, and america still made most of her own stuff, though all ages have their problems, like depressions, violence, war, racism, terrorism, mistrust of the established powers that be, but yes I agree agressive rythem for motown, remindes me of an sos on a telegraph, or an old steam train trying to get it started in all their fury, lots dont relize just how fast they were, over 100 mph on passenger trains and more power then any diesle electro today at 50 mph as it would continue to generate power at speed since it was direct drive and the hotter you ran from fast draft on it like a blast furnace the more the steam would expand and the more effective the superheater and power it could put out on the rails. read the story of one run on the pensy called last chance at a t1 with John R crosby.

This song never lets up for 3 minutes and change. Motown sure knew how to produce hit after hit, and give America great groups, ladies and gents alike. The Supremes are tops for me. Can't beat them. And let's not forget the Four Tops and Levi's soulful hurting voice and David Ruffin with the Temps and solo. ALL these groups just give me chills, even 50 years later. Thank you Motown!

I always believed Berry Gordy made one big mistake when he "broke" the spirit of The Supremes by renaming them, Diana Ross & The Supremes. Ill feelings ensued from ( within ) that moment forth. Considering Florence Ballard ( Flo ) started The Group and got bumped out! That said, I so agree with:

+DaVoid Saw Diana at Hollywood Bowl two years ago. Stellar showmanship; her band came out first and set up a bass line that shook the theater for five minutes -- and then one word from Diana offstage, "I'M!" The crowd roared. 30 seconds later, "COMING!" Bigger roar. 30 seconds later, "OUT!" She teased for three more minutes like this, then popped up in the middle of the stage in a ravishing gown, still beautiful, causing total delirium. She could still sing, though sadly she left this, my favorite, out of the show. But I still get goose bumps from that night.
