Those Were The Days
Dido R Plus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We were kids we'd know it all
We will live we will love forever more

We were blind so weโ€…wereโ€…free
We had noโ€…care just doubts

We were young love as aโ€…weapon days so sharp
It's never enough, never enough
It's never enough, never enough
It's never enough, never enough
It's never enough, never enough

We were kids we were friends
We were young we were kids
We were friends we were young

Those were the days those were the days
Those were the days those were the days

Those were the days those were the days
Those were the days those were the days

Those were the days those were the days
Those were the days those were the days

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dido R Plus's song "Those Were The Days" evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing for the innocence and freedom of youth. The song reflects on a time when the singer and their friends were young and carefree, living in the moment without any worries or doubts. As children, they believed they knew everything and had an unshakeable sense of immortality and endless love.

The line "We were blind so we were free" suggests that their youth and naivety allowed them to live uninhibited lives, unaffected by the burdens and responsibilities that come with age and experience. The mention of love as a weapon and days being sharp implies the intensity and passion of their youthful love, and perhaps the bittersweet memories that come with it.

This music video is feeling, words, meaning, images, context and music; all distilled and combined in its purest form to move something. Emotions.

As a teenager in 2007, I took a school trip to Barcelona. Very much walked streets like these. I was positively obsessed with Faithless back then, I had their music on repeat on my PSP. Just a few months ago, I came across an old photo on Facebook from that Barcelona trip, which I nostalgically shared with the comment, "those were the days". Yesterday, I first heard this song. I read the title and heard the song, and was instantly reminded of that trip. And that comment I made. Today, I see this video. Barcelona. What the fudge. Has my mental picture manifested itself, or do I need to take my pills again?
