La Paloma
Diego El Cigala Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

Diego El Cigala's song La Paloma is a passionate and nostalgic love letter to a woman, with the titular bird serving as a symbol of the singer's feelings. The lyrics suggest that if a dove were to approach the woman's window, she should treat it kindly as it represents the singer himself. He also asks her to share her loves and to take care of a bouquet of flowers which belongs to him. The chorus repeats a plea to the woman to give the singer her love and to come with him to where he lives. The song is filled with yearning and promises of eternal love, even if they are separated by great distances or time. Interestingly, the song also includes one verse in German, expressing that no matter where he goes, the singer always thinks of the woman with longing and will never forget her.
