Pride
Dierks Bentley Lyrics

One man come and go
One man come here to justify
One man to overthrow
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
One man caught on a barbed wire fence
One man he resist
One man washed on an empty beach
One man betrayed with a kiss
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
Early morning, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
The lyrics of Dierks Bentley's song "Pride" are actually a tribute to the classic U2 song "Pride (In the Name of Love)." The lyrics describe the assassinations of three iconic figures who fought for social justice – Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, and Jesus Christ. The first verse describes how these men came into the world with a purpose, either to bring about change or to fight it. The second verse refers to their struggles, such as being caught on a barbed wire fence or being betrayed by a kiss. The last verse is a direct reference to Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination on April 4, 1968. Despite his death, his message of equality and justice lived on and inspired others to continue the fight.
The repetition of "What more in the name of love" throughout the song suggests that all of these men were motivated by love and a desire for a better world, and that their sacrifices were made with love as the driving force. This song is not only a tribute to these figures, but also a call to action for listeners to continue their legacies by working towards a more just society. It reminds us that even when the fight seems difficult or futile, it is always worth continuing in the name of love.

This is one of the very best petformances i have seen in my 63 years.
@limer4330
This performance was the best live musical performance I've seen in years. I don't even listen to country or bluegrass. I just had the TV on and about 30 seconds after this started, I closed the screen on my laptop. By the end I had the chills running through me. All the musicians are incredibly talented but I gotta give high marks to The War & Treaty. They really brought it all together in a way I doubt anyone else could. Creds to Dirk. This performance must be luck with this song and these particular musicians making it what it was. I've seen U2 play this live many times and this is the best version of Pride I've ever heard. Seriously, this could not be any better.
@frankboyd.
Lookup Larkin Poe (played mandolin and dobro on this) you will be glad you did. Cheers
@limer4330
@@frankboyd. any good mandolin player would sound the same. There's a lot of them. There's not a lot of good singers.

100% agree. I like about 1/3000th of country. Not against it, it’s just not my jam. But this…THIS. I was blown away with the entire ensemble. One of the best live renditions of this song I’ve heard - including U2.
@hawkwho
Do not fail to see The War & Treaty in person. They are incredible performers with a great band of their own, and they know how to genuinely connect with an audience and blow it away.
@malo6073
I’m going to watch for them and go to one of their live shows.
@davidw3534
I love War and Treaty. They pretty much are my favorite band to see live. But I never would have classified them as country. I guess just cuz they are on the country awards doesn’t mean anything but I was surprised to see them here.
