So Long
Dierks Bentley Lyrics

Red handed, red handed
You said you had to work tonight
But here you are dancing
Slow dancing
In this honky talk with someone else
And all you got to say for yourself
Is "So?"
Sorry, so?
[Chorus]
So so long, bye bye baby
I'll catch you on the flip side maybe
Don't you slip slide on a tear when you find me gone
Go go on cry cry baby
Those tears are gonna drip drop maybe
But you're gonna miss my good love baby
For so so long
so so long
Let me buy you a goodbye drink
Make it a double
A double
Cause I've seen everything I need to see
You're nothing but trouble
Big trouble
And one other thing before I go
I want to tell you that I think you're so
So, so
Oh I ain't gonna sink that low
[Chorus]
I bet you think I'm gonna let it slide
The way you're flashing me those puppy dog eyes
Right? yeah right.. Right?
Wrong!
[Chorus]
See ya
The song "So Long" by Dierks Bentley is a breakup anthem that expresses the frustration and anger of the singer towards his cheating girlfriend. The first verse sets the scene where he catches her in her "little white lie," her excuse for not being able to spend time with him, and instead finds her dancing with someone else in a honky tonk. When he confronts her, she brushes off his concerns with a nonchalant "So?" This careless response infuriates the singer, leading him to bid her farewell with a "So so long, bye bye baby."
The chorus repeats the phrase "So so long" as a play on words, combining the dismissive "So?" the girlfriend used with "so long" to imply a final goodbye. He encourages her to cry if she wants to, but ultimately she will regret losing his "good love" for "so so long." In the second verse, the singer offers to buy her a "goodbye drink" but notes that he has "seen everything" he needs to see and wants nothing to do with her anymore. He acknowledges her attempts at begging forgiveness but ultimately decides he will not "sink that low" and will move on.
Overall, "So Long" is a straightforward breakup song that captures the hurt and anger one might feel after being betrayed by a partner. The repetition of "So?" and "So long" throughout the song adds a playful touch to an otherwise heavy subject matter.
