Like Someone in Love
Dinah Shore & André Previn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lately, I find myself out gazing at stars,
Hearing guitars like someone in love.
Sometimes the things I do astound me,
Mostly whenever you're around me.
Lately I seem to walk as though I had wings,
Bump into things like someone in love.
Each time I look at you,
I'm limp as a glove,
And feeling like someone in love.

Overall Meaning

In the song "Like Someone in Love" by Dinah Shore and André Previn, the lyrics depict a state of infatuation and obsession with someone. The singer describes their behavior as if they are under a spell, experiencing a newfound happiness and a feeling of being enchanted. The mention of gazing at stars and hearing guitars represents the dreamy and romantic atmosphere surrounding their thoughts. The singer acknowledges that their actions may seem surprising or irrational to others, but it is mainly because of the presence of the person they are in love with.

The lyrics also express the physical and emotional impact of being in love. The singer implies that their love interest has a profound effect on them, causing them to feel weightless and graceful like they have wings. However, this state of being also makes them clumsy, as they occasionally bump into things while lost in thoughts of love. The mention of being limp as a glove when looking at the subject of their affection illustrates the overwhelming emotions they experience when in their presence.

Overall, the lyrics of "Like Someone in Love" beautifully capture the enchanting and transformative nature of being infatuated with someone. It portrays the intoxicating feeling of happiness while simultaneously highlighting the vulnerability and clumsiness that often come with being deeply in love.

I remember watching the Dinah Shore Show. She was such a gentle soul with great talent. Her interviewing skills were some of the best. Very few can compare to her. The closest I have found lately is Bonnie Hunt.

bob blues

Grew up on her. She could sing the songs almost without embellishments.
As a jazz musician, IMO, If you can´t play the melody as the composer originally wrote the lead sheet, you are not in control of your art form.

@Kingsley Pedlar Hi Mr. Pedlar,
Mr. Van Heusen never failed to please. This song was/is still popular with every kind of singer; jazz included. I don't think rap has embraced it yet. For that I'm grateful. Also, I'm thankful to you for your comment. You thanked me, but I should be thanking you! Best wishes,

I was 10 in '45 but as you know, we grew up with all this beautiful around us. And might add, the "Golden Age of Hollywood" and those old radio shows of music, comedy and drama were great. I still listen to 1940's music all day long.

Thanks so much for your comment. There was just something special about Dinah, and how she could "seal the deal" vocally. Even in this clip, she was already showing 'em how! Good to hear from you!
