I Believe
Dinah Washington & Brook Benton Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I believe for every drop of rain that falls, a flower grows
And I believe that somewhere in the darkest night a candle glows
I believe for everyone who goes astray
Someone will come to show the way
Yes I believe, oh I believe
I believe above the storm the smallest prayer will still be heard
I believe that someone in the great somewhere hears every word
Every time I hear a newborn baby cry
Or touch a leaf or see the sky
Then I know why I believe

Every time I hear a newborn baby cry
Or touch a leaf or see the sky
Then I know why I believe

I believe
Oh I believe

Sorry. I never have cared for Dinah Washington's voice,
mostly the tone, but
also her phrasing and
pronunciation. Now if Brook had IDEALLY
dueted with Karen
Carpenter, I would think I had died and
gone to heaven! Ella
Fitzgerald and Sarah
Vaughn would also
have been great. Numerous others.
But best of all would
have been Brook solo! (What a hideous
piece of amateurish
"artwork" on that cover. Those overly
bright white eyes give
the appearance, in a
wierd, ironic way, of
BLACKS in "blackface".)

This is one of the greatest duet pieces ever made. No matter how many times you hear it, it never grows old. I'm 75 so I know what I'm talking about.

The album The two of us is ,in my opinion one of the greatest ,if not the greatest album ever produced . Two magnificent talented singers backed by world class musicians , The technical aspects and the arrangement of the recording could not be better .There is not one song in the entire album that does not send chills up my spine or bring a tear to my eyes Thanks for uploading . .
