Superman
Dino Desi and Billy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No, it's some other group
It's an intercontinental ballistics missile
No, it's Superman
Who is the man you can't ignore
It's Superman
From Budapest to Baltimore
And around my brain
A creature science can't explain
It's not a bird, it's not a plane
It's Superman
Who is the man you can't forget
It's Superman
Who's faster than a super jet
It's Superman
Nobody knows how this can be
A man as brave and good as he
Who is this man of mystery
It's Superman
Nobody knows how this can be
A man as brave and good as he
Who is this man of mystery
It's Superman
The song "Superman" by Dino Desi and Billy is an upbeat and catchy tune that celebrates the Man of Steel himself. The song starts with the famous phrase "Look, it's The Byrds. No, it's some other group. It's an intercontinental ballistics missile. No, it's Superman." This line highlights how Superman is an exceptional character who stands out from everyone else, making people look twice. The lyrics go on to describe him as "the man you can't ignore" who is known by people all around the world, from Budapest to Baltimore.
The chorus repeats the question, "Who is this man you can't forget? It's Superman," and acknowledges his incredible speed by stating that he is "faster than a super jet." The song also alludes to the mystery surrounding Superman and how nobody quite knows how he can be as brave and good as he is. The lyrics state that a creature around the singer's brain that science can't explain, followed by the statement that it's not a bird, it's not a plane - it's Superman.

I've always liked this recording, which I believe is the only pop single to come out of the Broadway musical It's a Bird It's a Plane It's Superman, whose vastly underrated score was written by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams of Bye Bye Birdie fame.

I clicked on this thinking it might be an earlier version of the "Superman" song that R.E.M. featured on the "Life's Rich Pageant album ( which is a cover of an obscure 1960's song by a band called The Clique ) No luck there, but an interesting novelty number from Dino, Desi and Billy. Thanks for posting it.
