1. Dio was an American heavy metal band formed in 1982 and led by vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Dio left Black Sabbath with intentions to form a new band with fellow former Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice. The name Dio was chosen because it made sense from a commercial standpoint, as the name was already well known at that time. The band released ten studio albums and had numerous lineup changes over the years, with Dio himself being the only constant member. Guitarists included Vivian Campbell, Craig Goldy, Doug Aldrich, Warren DeMartini, Tracy G, Jake E. Lee and Rowan Robertson. The band dissolved in 2010 when Ronnie James Dio died of stomach cancer at the age of 67. Dio has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.

Lock Up The Wolves

To the middle of the mystic sea
At the cradle of the world
There's a black cat screaming
And it's not even midnight, no
At the cradle of the world
They're screaming at you
Lock up the wolves
Lock up the wolves, yeah, yeah, yeah
Now there's a cloud over heaven
And a pain out of paradise
In your corner of the world
Turn your back on the children
Does it feel like it's colder
In your corner of the world
They're screaming for sanctuary
They're screaming at you
Lock up the wolves
Lock up the wolves,...
Don't you let 'em get away
Lock up the wolves before you play
Or it's over
Lock up the wolves
Don't you let 'em get away
Don't you let 'em get away
There's no back door to heaven
Just a front door to hell, oh
In this corner of the world
Now if you turn your back on the children
Don't you feel it getting colder
In your corner of the world
They're screaming for sanctuary
They're screaming at you
Lock up the wolves
Lock up the wolves,...
The lyrics to Dio's song Lock Up The Wolves seem to be referencing a place of great spiritual significance that is being threatened by some form of darkness, represented by the "black cat screaming" and the "cloud over heaven". The lyrics also suggest that those who are meant to be protecting this spiritual place, symbolized by the reference to "sanctuary", have failed in some way and that those who are meant to be protected, the "children", are suffering as a result.
The repeated refrain of "lock up the wolves" can be interpreted as a call to action to protect this spiritual place and those who inhabit it. The wolves could be seen as a metaphor for the darkness mentioned earlier, and locking them up might mean taking action to prevent further damage to the spiritual place and those who are meant to be protected.
Overall, the lyrics seem to be cautioning against negligence, apathy, and the failure of those in power to properly protect what is important. It could be interpreted as a call to action to take responsibility and take care of that which is sacred.
