Mystery
Dio [USA] Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey, can you hear me can you see
There's a storm on the edge of the sky
Does it matter
Well it does to me, and I can tell you why

You know when there's thunder, there should be rain
But it don't always follow the rule, no
And is the wise man always right?
No he can play the fool

It's always a mystery, not what it seems to be
It's always a mystery, just like you and me

It's always a mystery
We are lightning
We are flame
And we burn at the touch of a spark
When there's fire, but no one sees
There's only the dark

Just imagine, will you try
I can see that you've opened your mind
Silver linings can disappear, but they always shine

It's always a mystery, not what it seems to be
It's always a mystery, just like you and me, it's always a mystery

It's always a mystery, not what it seems to be
It's always a mystery, just like you and me

It's always a mystery, not what you want to see
It's always a mystery, just like you and me

Always a mystery, always a mystery not what you want to see
Always a mystery, always a mystery

Always a mystery, always a mystery not what you want to see just like you and me
It's always a mystery, always a mystery

Overall Meaning

The song "Mystery" by Dio speaks about the uncertainties of life and the unpredictability of the world around us. The song begins with the singer questioning if those around him can hear and see what he can. He then goes on to describe the storm on the edge of the sky, which may or may not bring rain. The song highlights the fact that we cannot always predict what life has in store for us, and not even the wise always know the right way to navigate things. The chorus repeats the idea that life is always a mystery, and things are not always what they seem to be.

All true, he was an amazing singer and he had no voice training whatsoever, his singing came naturally. Unfortunately, he died of cancer done years ago. Rest in Peace Ronnie Hanes Dio, you and your voice love on in the hearts and minds of millions, including me. May your voice echo in heaven.

William Moquin

This is one of Dio's greatest songs, it deserves way more than 200k views. Long live rock and roll 🔥🤘🤘

I had the privilege of meeting RJD 3 times in his career. What a performer, what a gentlemen, and one of the greatest singers of our time. This song always warms my heart and kicks ass at the same time. Music truly lost a lot when you left us. Rest easy now brother, as your work you left behind will live on forever for all those who heard it, and for all those who have yet to do so.

Did he remember you each time?

Matt Houtchens

I heard he has a razor-sharp memory, of everybody that he's ever met. Was it true in terms of you, when you got reacquainted those three times?

R JS

He Most certainly did! But I did have an unfair advantage then most as I was working for two very popular bands myself when I met him., but he remembered!

R JS

He did indeed! I did have an advantage over most as I was working for a very popular band myself at the time that he was a fan of. He engaged in meaningful conversation about the band and offered sound and lifelong advice. He was a gentlemen and scholar of life...I will always be thankful and grateful for having just to speak with him, never mind all the incredible music he left us!

@R JS Yes, my impression is of a man who, while he wrestled with his own pain from being an immigrant's child (and all the formidable challenges that brings), generally he seemed really quite empathic and sensitive to the plight of the oppressed. Again, this may have roots in his working class, immigrant upbringing where survival itself was never something to be taken for granted.
