Men women and children cry and scream in pain
Wounded by bomb splinters
Streets littered with maimed and slaughtered
In rigid pathetic heaps

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Discharge's song "Maimed and Slaughtered" are a reflection of the horrors of war and the destruction it brings. The opening line speaks to the indiscriminate nature of war, as it affects not only soldiers but also innocent civilians. The imagery of men, women, and children crying and screaming in pain highlights the human cost of war. The use of the word "wounded" implies that this is not just about death but also the long-lasting physical and emotional trauma that war inflicts.

The second line uses the specifics of "bomb splinters" to paint a stark picture of just how brutal war can be. The streets "littered with maimed and slaughtered" evokes a sense of chaos and devastation, and the use of "rigid pathetic heaps" emphasizes the inhumanity of it all. The use of the word "pathetic" is particularly poignant because it shows that even after death, there is still a sense of pity for the suffering that has occurred.

Overall, the lyrics of "Maimed and Slaughtered" are a powerful commentary on the senselessness of war and the suffering it creates. The vivid imagery and choice of words create a visceral reaction in the listener and drive home the message of the song.

This owns the rest of the hardcore punk genre. Just unbelievably good.

@ryanklaassen2124

As a massive thrash fan i had to come and check this song out

@SN-sk8co

Fucking hell even after all these years, I find it very hard to pick an album that is heavier and more brutal sounding than this album. And this is coming from a black metal, death metal thrash metal fan.

@iachtulhu1420

Same here. Grew up on metal, death, grind, black etc.. but these early HC acts and recordings have this rawness, brutality, direct assault like none other. I always prefer my HC punky, even though I originally came from metal. This one right here started it all, of course not single-handedly.

@bigbillyborger

No one rips harder than the original D-beat bastards

@kabukikommandofourthworld5266

Man, as much as I enjoy that first wave of American hardcore punk ('80-'83?), no American punk band of the early '80s even comes close to achieving such a horrific and brutal @$!*&% sound. This music honestly sounds like it is scraping your flesh away, and DISCHARGE did it first and best of all.

@hardcorevintagefades

Thanks for putting this up. I have been looking for this song on Youtube for a while.

@Adeadcop702
