In this framework, at the initiative of the European Commission, the DIVERSIDAD project was thought up by the European Music Office (EMO) and the Diversités association. The aim of this project is to provide the players in European urban cultures with a platform for getting to know one another, sharing, creating and together founding a lasting bridge of exchanges. The upcoming release of a single bringing together numerous European artists will symbolise the first step in this urban-intercultural dialogue.
With concerts, exhibitions, documentaries, conferences and the development of a digital exchange platform, DIVERSIDAD also seeks to give an idea of the scope and richness of urban cultures in Europe nearly 25 years after its emergence and to banish the clichés that are too often associated with it. Urban cultures have been federating the young generations for 30 years. They are the reflection of respect and solidarity through common values, the reflection of the diversity and mix of languages, cultures and origins that make up the Europe of today.
Through hip-hop, a major urban artistic movement in community life, rappers and footballers have quite often demonstrated their friendship and solidarity with events and taking stands. Hip-hop and football, vectors of intercultural dialogue federating young people, communities and social networks, also share the ability to reach all publics, all cultures. The Austrian capital, co-organiser of the EURO 2008 football championship in June, quite naturally imposed itself for hosting this first European get-together. These encounters, focussing on urban cultures, will take place on June 23rd, 24th and 25th, all in the centre of Vienna, at one of Europe’s greatest cultural and artistic centres, the WUK.

I ain't the average mc, I'm quite stormy,
so not corny, better tell your friends,
I'm rappin for the Dam, better understand.
Sick as a dog but I'm ripping it dawg,
better spread the word that I got nothing but love,
while rocking worldwide, I cannot get enough,
Melodee is the name, I'll be setting it off.
Jedna ljubav za druga, sestru, meinen bruder,
dosli sa istih pruga, iz istog kruga,
dio smo stuba koji kulturu cuva,
do zadnjega zuba, familija poput Kuma.

peilst was ich sende
und begreifst was ich mein und teilst was ich schreib

[Estribillo Mariama]
We dance to a million beats
in millions of streets,
different rivers flow together
and the wave sets you free.
A million beats
in millions of streets,
all these rivers splash together
and the wave sets you free.

Ey yo we plant seeds and we watch the trees grow,
leaves flow with the wind oxigen for the people,
breathe in, breathe out, got a voice speak now,
we here for that, bom dia, salamalekum, ni hao.

men oavsett spraket gar flowet rakt in i märgen.

The lyrics to Diversidad's song The Experience are a celebration of diversity and unity. The song features verses in multiple languages, including Spanish, French, German, and Swedish, highlighting the idea that no matter where we come from or what language we speak, music has the power to bring us together. The opening verse declares the rapper's uniqueness and promotes love and acceptance, while the following verses touch on topics such as culture preservation, political corruption, and the power of hip hop to break down barriers. The chorus speaks of dancing to a million different beats in millions of streets, with different rivers flowing together and the wave setting everyone free. It's a powerful message of unity and acceptance that is carried throughout the song.
One interesting fact about the song is that it was a collaboration between 14 different artists from different parts of the world. Each artist wrote and performed their own verses in their native language, adding to the theme of diversity and unity. Another interesting fact is that the music video for this song was shot in 15 different countries, including France, Brazil, Germany, and Morocco, showcasing the incredible diversity of the locations and people featured in the video.
The song was released in 2007 and quickly became an international hit, receiving praise for its message of unity and diversity. It has been featured in numerous films, including the 2011 documentary "The Interrupters," and continues to be an anthem of positivity and acceptance. The lyrics have been praised for their insightful and introspective nature, using music as a tool to promote social change and understanding.
