Fighting
Divinyls Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm shattered to pieces there's a pounding in my chest
But there's no time to sit down and take a rest
I'm losing my resistance and I'm coming after you
I'm losing my resistance and I'm coming after you
After you - you, you, you , you

This time I gotta cause worth fighting for
Well, you know, this time
I gotta cause worth fighting for

My blood is boiling my fever is high
But I'm going to give it one more try
I'm losing my complacency and I'm coming after you
I'm losing my complacency
And I'm coming after you, after you
You, you, you, you

This time I gotta cause worth fighting for
Well, you know, this time
I gotta cause worth fighting for

Gotta stick to the fight when you're hardest hit
Is when things hurt the most that you must not quit
I'm losing my resistance and I'm coming after you
After you

This time I gotta cause worth fighting for

Well, you know, this time
I gotta cause worth fighting for

Overall Meaning

The Divinyls' song "Fighting" is a powerful anthem about perseverance and determination in the face of adversity. The lyrics suggest that even when one feels shattered and exhausted, they must keep fighting for a cause they believe in. The first verse describes the physical toll of the fight, with the singer feeling "shattered to pieces" and experiencing an intense heartbeat. Despite this, she refuses to take a break and rest, instead channeling her energy into pursuing whatever it is she desires.

In the chorus, the singer declares that this fight is "worth fighting for" - it is a cause that matters deeply to her and is worth all the effort and pain. The second verse reinforces this idea, as the singer's "blood is boiling" and she is determined to give it "one more try." She concedes that she has been complacent in the past, but now she is "losing" that attitude and "coming after" her goal with everything she's got.

The bridge is perhaps the most powerful section of the song, as the singer urges listeners to "stick to the fight when you're hardest hit" and not give up when things get tough. By keeping going and pushing through the pain, she suggests, we can achieve great things and conquer any obstacle. The final chorus drives home the message that this cause is truly "worth fighting for" and that we must never give up on our dreams.

+calamagrostis88....There are 4 other albums plus a mini-album...their first...spanning from 1982 to 1996 and they're all brilliant. They were well known in Australia with their only international success being ''I Touch Myself''. There is a goldmine of discovery among their stuff on youtube. As to why...a question many of their fans contemplate.

What the hell happened to Rock and Roll?. This album is amazing, much better than any Rolling Stones from these years. No one knows about this album, why?
