The trio is currently ranked as the highest-selling female musical group in the USA, according to RIAA Gold & Platinum album certifications. As of 2012, The Chicks had won 13 Grammy Awards. While The Chicks continues, Maguire and Robison are writing and recording as Court Yard Hounds as of Feb 2010. The Dixie Chicks renamed the band in 2020 to The Chicks dropping Dixie from the official name as the name had the word 'Dixie' referencing the American Mason–Dixon line, which separated the free and slave-owning southern states.
Robin Lynn Macy was an original bandmember, as was Laura Lynch. Macy left the group in 1992, while Lynch was replaced by Natalie Maines in 1995.
The group aroused considerable controversy for publicly denouncing President George W. Bush and the imminent invasion of Iraq during the European leg of their Top of the World tour supporting Home. Many country music stations immediately pulled their music from the air, and the band received criticism from many corners of the media.

Such a long time ago
If I found you with another
Well I'd walk right out your door
Woah you might call me crazy
There's one thing you should know
Oh honey if you want me to love you
I know it's useless to be jealous
I couldn't tie you if I tried
When I'm thinking you're messin'
Around my back
It sure brings a pain I just can't hide
Oh baby, I've been true to you
And if I can make that sacrifice
Honey, you can do it too
Well, you come home drunk and nasty
You won't tell me where you've been
Just when things are nice and sweet
Your going back out again
Why do you want to mess up a good thing?
I'm gonna find me another man
One that wants to give me everything
Well I told you pretty baby
Such a long time ago
If I found you with another
Well, I'd walk right out the door
Woah, you might call me crazy
There's one thing you should know
Oh honey if you want me to love you
Got to give it up or let me go
Give it up or let me go
The song "Give It Up Or Let Me Go" by Dixie Chicks, originally written and recorded by Bonnie Raitt, speaks of the struggles that come with a one-sided relationship. The lyrics communicate the artist's mistrust and apprehension of a partner who, in the past, has been unfaithful. She cannot hide the pain she feels when she thinks of her partner messing around behind her back. Despite her struggles, the artist has been true to her partner, and she believes that if she can make that sacrifice, then her partner can do it as well. However, her partner continues to come home drunk and nasty without any explanation of his whereabouts. He often leaves just when things are nice and sweet.
The artist warns her partner that if she ever found him with someone else, she would walk right out the door, and he should give it up or let her go instead of dragging things out. She admits that she might sound crazy, but she knows what she wants, and she is willing to walk away if he is not willing to meet her needs.
Overall, the song is about the struggle to maintain a healthy relationship when one partner is unfaithful or not willing to meet the other partner's needs. The artist's passionate performance and heartfelt lyrics give the audience a sense of how challenging it can be to navigate such complex emotional terrain.
