The trio is currently ranked as the highest-selling female musical group in the USA, according to RIAA Gold & Platinum album certifications. As of 2012, The Chicks had won 13 Grammy Awards. While The Chicks continues, Maguire and Robison are writing and recording as Court Yard Hounds as of Feb 2010. The Dixie Chicks renamed the band in 2020 to The Chicks dropping Dixie from the official name as the name had the word 'Dixie' referencing the American Mason–Dixon line, which separated the free and slave-owning southern states.
Robin Lynn Macy was an original bandmember, as was Laura Lynch. Macy left the group in 1992, while Lynch was replaced by Natalie Maines in 1995.
The group aroused considerable controversy for publicly denouncing President George W. Bush and the imminent invasion of Iraq during the European leg of their Top of the World tour supporting Home. Many country music stations immediately pulled their music from the air, and the band received criticism from many corners of the media.

Rows of photographs
And faces like mine
Who do we become
Without knowing where
We started from?
It's true; I'm missing you
Everyday that will pass you by
Every name that you won't recall
Everything that you made by hand
Everything that you know by heart
And I will try to connect
All the pieces you left
I will carry it on
And let you forget
And I'll remember the years
When your mind was clear
How the laughter and life
Filled up this silent house
One room
Two single beds
In the closet hangs
Your favorite dress
The books that you read
Are in scattered piles
Of paper shreds
Everything that you made by hand
Everything that you know by heart
And I will try to connect
All the pieces you left
I will carry it on
And let you forget
And I'll remember the years
When your mind was clear
How the laughter and life
Filled up this silent house
Silent house
In the garden off the living room
A chill fills the air
And the lilies bloom
And I will try to connect
All the pieces you left
I will carry it on
And let you forget
And I'll remember the years
When your mind was clear
How the laughter and life
Filled up this...
And I will try to connect
All the pieces you left
I will carry it on
And let you forget
And I'll remember the years
When your mind was clear
How the laughter and life
Filled up this silent house
Silent house
The Dixie Chicks song "Silent House" is a melancholic tune about the memories and feelings that linger in a home long after its inhabitants have gone. The opening lines set the scene with the walls of the house personified as having eyes, and rows of photographs of faces that look like the singer's. The lyrics then pose a question, a reflection on the nature of identity: "Who do we become without knowing where we started from?"
The chorus then addresses the absent loved one directly, confessing that the singer is missing them. They describe the small details of the home that hold pieces of the person's life: their handmade creations, their favorite dress, their scattered piles of books. The singer promises to "try to connect all the pieces [they] left" and carry on their legacy, even though they will "let [them] forget."
The final verse is perhaps the most vivid, evoking a chilly autumn day as the lilies bloom in the garden. Despite the departure of the loved one, the memories of their past joy and laughter together still echo in the "silent house."
Overall, "Silent House" is a poignant reflection not only on the passage of time and the inevitable loss of loved ones, but also on the way that our physical surroundings hold echoes of our past selves.

Deep , personal , meaningful , melodic and performed beautifully , a perfect eulogy to Natalie’s grandmother culminating into a perfect song ......
@EnglishMike
Natalie Maines' grandfather first told me about this song. Just by chance, many moons ago, I played a round of golf with him in Austin, Texas. A sprightly old man well into his 80s and still walking the course, I had no idea who he was until he told me about his famous granddaughter. He went on to tell me about his wife and her long hard journey with Altzheimer's, and that Natalie had written a song about it. It was quite moving, I recall.

@ashley1994 When you play golf at a public course, they prefer to send people out in foursomes, so if you book a tee time for just two people, they'll add one or two more players to the group -- typically a single player or two who just show up without booking a time.
And it just so happened that a couple of times when me and my friend showed up at one of the local golf courses in Austin, Texas, Natalie's grandpa was added to our group. He was a pleasure to play with.
Just recently we ended up being teamed up with Jason Roberts, a Grammy winning Western swing singer and fiddle player who lives in Austin!

What a great story! I had always figured it was written for the sisters' family.
@EnglishMike
@@cristinaimpoverished7435 Thanks. Sadly, it's all too common. My own father recently passed away at 93. He had a long and happy life, for which the family is grateful, but the last few years were tough on him and my mother as dementia took it's toll.
