The group was formed when its members, now college-aged, were in middle school. As high school juniors — then performing as Panda — the band regularly sold out Bottom Of The Hill, a legendary breeding ground for San Francisco Bay Area talent.
The group’s three-song demo garnered steady airplay on KITS (Live105), KSAN (The Bone), and KALX (Berkeley). The media attention pushed the band onto larger stages (at Slims and Great American Music Hall, to name a few). Live 105 music director Aaron Axelson affectionately called the band “the pride of Piedmont,” name-checking the band’s small northern California hometown.
Guitarist Jonny Flannes cites the Beatles and Queen as the group's two biggest influences.

Raise A Glass
Dizzy Balloon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Hold it high and make it last
Here's a toast
To all of the boys and the girls
Have a seat
Raise your drink and sing with me
Here's a toast
Sometimes things don't go your way, man
Not much I can do or say, man
Listen up, you gotta play the game
Or you'll go out the window
Toughen up and roughen up, boy
Don't you think about giving up, boy
Take a sip and listen up
Or one day you'll drop!
I'll raise a glass this one's for my
Love of my life, this love of mine
I took a sip, they say I'm fine
I disagree, I've lost my mind
Raise a glass
Hold it high and make it last
Here's a toast to all of the boys and the girls
Count to three
Hold your breath and follow me
Here's a toast to all of the boys and the girls
Sometimes things don't go your way, man
Not much I can do or say, man
Listen up, you gotta play the game
Or you'll go out the window
Toughen up and roughen up, boy
Don't you think about giving up, boy
Take a sip and listen up
Or one day you'll drop!
I'll raise a glass this one's for my
Love of my life, this love of mine
I took a sip, they say I'm fine
I disagree, I've lost my mind
It's getting stronger, stronger, YEAH!
I'll raise a glass this one's for my
Love of my life, this love of mine
I took a sip, they say I'm fine
I disagree, I've lost my mind
The song "Raise a Glass" is a celebratory and motivational song that encourages listeners to raise their glasses and make a toast to "all of the boys and girls." The chorus is infectious and simple, with a call-and-response section that is perfect for getting a crowd involved. The first verse gives advice on handling tough times and encourages listeners to "toughen up and roughen up." The second verse speaks directly to the singer's love for someone special, and how they've lost their mind because of it.
The song begins with an upbeat, jazzy melody and builds into a rock-inspired chorus, making it perfect for parties and festivals. The lyrics are simple yet effective, and the message is clear: life is tough, but you can't let it get you down. Raise a glass and toast to the good times, and never give up. The repeated line "take a sip and listen up" emphasizes the importance of staying positive, listening to advice from others, and having a good time.
The singer's declaration that they've "lost their mind" because of their love for someone is an interesting twist on traditional love song lyrics. Instead of professing undying adoration, the singer admits that their love has made them slightly crazy. This could be interpreted as a warning to listeners to not let love consume them completely, but also serves as a testament to the intense emotions that love can bring out in people.
