The Middle
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm in the middle
I'm in the middle
Of everything
Surrounded by your nothing

You're in the corner
You're in the corner
Letting go
Much to my surprise

Love is forsaken
Call the raven, nevermore
Took it for granted
For a while
But I'm getting closer
To a place, I've never been
Closer to you
Oh

Say that you don't really need me
Say that you don't really mean it now
And I will feel much better

Instrumental

I'm in the middle
I'm in the middle
Chaining you
So much for saturation

You're in the corner
You're in the corner
Breaking down
I can't connect to you

Love is forsaken
Call the raven, nevermore
I took it for granted for a while
But I'm getting closer
To a place I've never been
Closer to you, oh

Say that you don't really need me
Say that you don't really mean it now
And I would feel much better

Instrumental

Oh
Love is forsaken
Call the raven, nevermore
Took it for granted for a while
But I'm getting closer to a place I've never been
Closer to you
Oh

Say that you don't really need me

Say that you don't really mean it now
And I would feel much better

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dizzy Mizz Lizzy's "The Middle" are a metaphorical representation of a relationship that has hit a rocky point, with both parties struggling to maintain their connection. The singer is "in the middle" of everything, surrounded by "nothing," implying a sense of isolation and confusion. They feel chained to the other person, but they also acknowledge that they are choking the other person with their constant presence.

The second verse paints a picture of the other person withdrawing and disconnecting, symbolized by being in the corner and letting go. The lyrics suggest that the love they once shared has been forsaken and that they have taken each other for granted. The chorus repeats the plea for the other person to admit that they don't really need the singer, suggesting that it might be better to accept the end of the relationship.

The instrumental sections between verses and the final repetition of the chorus serve to emphasize the emotional weight of the lyrics, creating space for the listener to internalize the message. Overall, "The Middle" is a poignant expression of the complexities of love and the struggles that come with trying to maintain a relationship.

As a singer-songwriter miself I spend a lot of time, as I've been doing for years, looking in vain for even just one good current songwriter, and today, finally, I find one. This guy. Both his solo and band work over 25 years really is exceptional. He's been described as John Lennon meets Neil Finn, and that's accurate not merely re his vocals but re his songwriting talent. It's amazing how it took me until now to find his stuff. I've now got a lot of listening to do to Tim Christensen's entire back catalogue, and I hope he comes to do shows here in England. The potential audience in the UK and USA is ginormous. Tim Christensen should be a global megastar.

Hi again, Steve
I discovered Tim with his friend Mike Viola, at McCartney's 70th birthday tribute called "Pure McCartney" they did in Copenhaguen . I would like to recommend Mike to you. They are my two great discoveries of the 21st century. As a musician that I am, I can see a lot of details. Their level of talent is similar, and they admire each other. Mike started with his band Candy Butchers and both with the group and his solo work are incredible.
