Nerve
Don Broco Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Always afraid of missing out
Twisted me, it twisted me
All the things I miss about you
They're haunting me, you're haunting me

How was I to know, I'd be
How was I to know, I'd be changing my mind
How was I to know, I'd be
Crawling back, crawling back

I, I've got a lot of nerve
And I, I thought that you had heard
I guess I hope you didn't know, you didn't know
I hope you didn't know, you didn't know
I have to make it hurt

All the shit that you allowed
Through with it, I'm through with it
And all the shit I got away with
Done with that, I'm done with that

How were you to know, you'd see?
How were you to know, you'd see me all the time?
How were you to know, I'd come
Crawling back, crawling back

I, I've got a lot of nerve
And I, I thought that you had heard
I guess I hope you didn't know, you didn't know
I hope you didn't know, you didn't know
I have to make it hurt

I hope you didn't know, you didn't know
I hope you didn't know, you didn't know
I hope you didn't know, you didn't know
I hope you didn't know, you didn't know

I, I've got a lot of nerve
And I, I thought that you had heard
I guess I hope you didn't know, you didn't know
I hope you didn't know, you didn't know
I have to make it hurt

I hope you didn't know, you didn't know
I hope you didn't know, you didn't know
I hope you didn't know, you didn't know
I hope you didn't know, you didn't know

You didn't know, you didn't know
You didn't know, you didn't know

You didn't know, you didn't know
I hope you didn't know, you didn't know

Overall Meaning

In Don Broco's "Nerve," the lyrics describe the feeling of regret after a breakup, specifically the regret of missing out on being with the person again. The singer is haunted by memories of the past and admits to having a lot of nerve for wanting to come crawling back to the person. He acknowledges that the relationship had problems, but he's willing to make it hurt and wants the other person to feel it too.

The opening lyrics state that the singer was always afraid of missing out, implying that he didn't want to end things but felt like he had no other choice. He then expresses that he's haunted by the things he misses about the person and that he's changed his mind about the breakup. He admits that he's crawling back and hopes the other person didn't know how much he wanted to be with them again.

The chorus repeats the line "I've got a lot of nerve" and expresses the hope that the other person didn't know how much the singer wanted to come back. The song then switches to the perspective of the person who was broken up with, questioning how they were supposed to know that the singer would come crawling back. Overall, "Nerve" is a vulnerable portrayal of the aftermath of a breakup and the conflicting emotions that come with it.

Same

@DubLoop

Bassist quietly driving this song.. So underrated!

@gabe17gamer

I agree but the way he sit neatly underneath the electronics and guitars sounds really cool to me. I think that the Don Broco bassist is utilised well generally though- songs like automatic are so bass heavy and dependent and less guitar driven which is a nice change from most bands.

@tomcanningmusic4923

I honestly think he's one of the best bassists in the rock scene right now, bass parts on automatic are all spectacular but fit perfectly

@ramzistinson

OH MY GOSH I WAS THINKING THE SAME

@jamesgrant2557

@j.juarez9526
