Two Different Worlds
Don Rondo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Nothing matters if I am yours and you are mine.
Two different words,
We live in two different worlds
For we've been told,
That a love like ours
Could never be.

So far apart,
They say we're so far apart
And that we haven't
The right to change our destiny.

When will they learn,
That a heart doesn't draw a line.
Nothing matters if I am yours and you are mine.

Two different worlds
We live in two different worlds
But we will show them as we walk together in the sun,
That our two different worlds are one.

When will they learn,
That a heart doesn't draw a line.
Nothing matters if I am yours and you are mine.

Two different worlds
We live in two different worlds

But we will show them as we walk together in the sun,
That our two different worlds are one.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Don Rondo's song "Two Different Worlds" express the lovers' dilemma of belonging to different social and cultural backgrounds, which society perceives as incompatible. The song highlights the intensity of their love, which defies societal norms and expectations. Don Rondo's lyrics emphasise that the fundamental aspect of their love is the mutual devotion they have for each other, and nothing else matters when it comes to their relationship. The chorus of the song is a reassurance of their love being pure and capable of transcending all barriers.

The first verse emphasises the societal paradigm and the harsh reality of societal norms. Society dictates that a love like theirs cannot exist because they both hail from entirely different worlds. The second verse highlights the critics who argue that the lovers are far apart and have no right to challenge destiny. However, the imagination and emotions of the lovers know no boundaries, and they only have eyes for each other. Their love will conquer society's constraints, and they will continue to walk the path of love arm in arm.

The lyrics of "Two Different Worlds" are as relevant today as they were back then, wherein relationships are still judged based on cultural and societal norms. The song is a beautiful ode to the power of love that is capable of overcoming even the most significant barriers.

Such a beautiful song that I had totally forgotten till here I am watching a 1960 Bob Hope Special on YouTube in 2022 and Patti Page and Bobby Darin start singing it. But I'm not sure I remember this recording since I was only born in '51.
