In 1978 Donatella Rettore decided to turn her name simply into "Rettore", her looks change as well as the style of her music, now closer to rock. The year after she reached a great popularity with the album "Brivido Divino" that included one of her greatest success, the song "Splendido Splendente", which is actually considered one of the greatest hits of italian music. In 1980 she released another successful single, "Kobra", which placed second in another famous italian competition, "Festivalbar" (which features international artists). The year after, her new single "Donatella" hit the dancefloors and granted her the victory of "Festivalbar".
These following years are the top of Rettore's career: sir Elton John wrote three songs for her ("Remember", "This time", Sweetheart on parade") and played a part in the movie "Cicciabomba" that features Anita Ekberg.
From the year 1985 her success began to fade, in terms of sellings, even if the quality of her production was remarkable and only in the latest years has been recognized.
In 1994 she regained popularity with the single "Di notte specialmente", presented at the "Festival di Sanremo". The album "Incantesimi notturni" also had an average success.
During the 2004 she regained popularity again, starring as guest in the popular italian version of "Big Brother" tv show and then competing in another tv show, the music reality "La Fattoria"
2005 is the year of her next new album titled "Figurine."
Delirio
Donatella Rettore Lyrics

Ti ripeto che non ho bisogno di carezze
Né di voci suadenti per le mie debolezze,
Ti ripeto che non ho bisogno di carezze.
Agevolmente guidata
Dalla mia lampada amata,
Vado in delirio lontano da lui...
Che mi ha avuto e non mi ha avuto mai.
Che mi ha avuto e non mi ha avuto mai.
Che mi ha avuto e non mi ha avuto mai.
Che mi ha avuto e non mi ha avuto mai.
Dipinta d'argento e di grandi passioni
Scavo nei pensieri e mi ritrovo tentazioni
E lamenti e respiri, freddi come tifoni,
Mantieni le promesse o ti strappo i tuoi... galloni!
Torbidamente guidata
Dalla mia vita dannata,
Vado in delirio lontano da lui...
Che mi ha avuto e non mi ha avuto mai.
Che mi ha avuto e non mi ha avuto mai.
Che mi ha avuto e non mi ha avuto mai.
Che mi ha avuto e non mi ha avuto mai.
Delirio, oh sì, è un delirio, oh sì!
Aaah! Vado da Giove a Sirio.
Baciata dal caldo e da ignobili crisi
Ti ripete che non ha bisogno di sorrisi,
Né di musiche dolci per cullare deliri,
Ti ripeto che non ho bisogno di sorrisi.
(Repeat choruses)
The lyrics of Donatella Rettore's "Delirio" express the singer's need for independence and freedom from the control of a lover. She rejects the idea of needing affection and soothing voices to appease her weaknesses, instead, she finds herself in a delirious state, far away from the person who has had her but never truly had her. The singer feels as if she is being led effortlessly by her beloved lamp, lost in the delirium of her thoughts and away from her lover's influence.
The second verse of the song describes the singer's feelings of being trapped by her own thoughts and desires, which appear to be in conflict with the promises and commitments made by her lover. She is led turbidly by her damned life, experiencing temptations and cold breaths, and threatens to take away his rank if he does not keep his promises. Rettore admits to the delirium, which takes her from Jupiter to Sirius, and that she does not need smiles or sweet melodies to soothe her delirious state.
