Everybody
Donna Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Every son and every daughter's
Growing cheeba in their locker
Gimme gimme, gimme gimme
It's the herb that we must see yeah,

Everybody's smoking cheeba
And there's nothing I can do
Like Correcto, cheeba too
Everybody's smoking cheeba
Everybody, everybody yell (Yeah!)

Get that Summer? Get that Ashlyn?
It's their secret cheeba obsession
Gimme gimme, gimme gimme
Mommy, daddy, sister too,
Wonder what Correcto can do

It's no wonder we can't pass
??? in that English class
Everybody's smoking cheeba
Everybody, everybody now

See that Bonnie with that cheeba stick
She thinks that, it's her boyfriend Rick
Friday night and there's nothing to do
Gotta get that white Correcto too (Yeah!)

Get that Summer? Get that Ashlyn?
It's their secret cheeba obsession
Gimme gimme, gimme gimme
Mommy, daddy, sister too,
Wonder what Correcto can do

And there's nothing I can do
Like Correcto, cheeba too

Everybody's smoking cheeba
Everybody, everybody yell

Overall Meaning

The song "Everybody" by Donna is a satirical take on the prevalent culture of marijuana consumption among teenagers. The opening lines of the song refer to how every kid seems to have stashed marijuana in their lockers, indicating how commonplace marijuana consumption is among teenagers. The repeated chant of "Gimme gimme" seems to suggest an insatiable desire for the drug. The line "It's the herb that we must see" implies that marijuana has become a necessity, rather than a luxury.

The chorus of the song has Donna lamenting how there isn't much she can do to stop the trend. The line "Like Correcto, cheeba too" refers to how even those who were formerly opposed to drug use have now given in to it. The chorus is a cry of helplessness at the unstoppable trend of marijuana consumption.

The third verse gives us an insight into the personal lives of a few teenagers, particularly Bonnie and Rick. With no exciting plans for Friday night, Bonnie resorts to smoking marijuana with her "boyfriend" Rick. The line "Gotta get that white Correcto too" seems to hint at how marijuana consumption could also lead to experimenting with harder drugs.
