Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

A Full Time Job
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'll do anything you want me to
But if you have no plan to use a full-time man
A part-time job will do
I want a full-time job bein' close to you
Makin' all your dreams come true
But if your heart don't throb about a full-time job
A part-time job will do
You wouldn't, you wouldn't have to pay me
A nickel or a dime
As long as you would let me (DORIS: Do what?)
Give myself a little bit of crazy overtime
I want a full-time job holdin' hands with you
I think you'd kinda like it too
Don't want a part-time job, I want a full-time job
But a part-time job will do
I want a full-time job makin' love to you
I'll do anything you want me to
But if you have no plan to use a full-time man
A part-time job will do
I want a full-time job bein' close to you
Makin' all your dreams come true
But if your heart don't throb about a full-time job
A part-time job will do
You wouldn't, you wouldn't have to pay me
A nickel or a dime
But baby, if you'd let me, then I know you won't forget me
And it isn't any crime to have a gratis overtime
I want a full-time job holdin' hands with you
I think you'd kinda like it too
Don't need a part-time job, I want a full-time job
But a part-time job will do
There wouldn't be no point in livin'
And I know we'll be forgivin'
It's a full-time job with you
In Doris Day's song A Full Time Job, the lyrics express a desire for a full-time job of making love, being close, and holding hands with the person the singer is singing to. The singer is willing to settle for a part-time job if that is all their love interest is willing to give. The song speaks to the idea that love can be a full-time job that requires devotion and attention, but even a part-time job can be fulfilling if the love is real.
The repetition of the phrases "a full-time job" and "a part-time job" can be interpreted as a metaphor for the amount of effort and time put into a relationship. The singer wants to give their all and be fully committed, but they are willing to settle for less if that is all their partner can offer. The line "Don't want a part-time job, I want a full-time job, but a part-time job will do" emphasizes this idea.
Throughout the song, the singer emphasizes the importance of their love interest, saying they would not need to be paid a nickel or a dime, and that being with them is a full-time job in itself. The line "there wouldn't be no point in livin'" emphasizes how much the singer values their love interest and how much they want to be with them.
Overall, the song expresses a longing for love and commitment, while recognizing that not everyone is ready or able to give that level of commitment. It is a sweet and romantic song that speaks to the complexity of relationships and the different levels of commitment that people are willing and able to give.
